Title: Ode To Moonlight
Name: Daniel Voyer-lessard
Country: Canada
Software: Photoshop
"Only when all light has vanished can the moon reveal the path out of darkness"
This is a picture I've done for a personal project that will be presented at school. I've done it to practice Matte Painting as well as to refine my hand painting skills. Though I had to move on and cut short because of a lack of time, I'm still pretty satisfied with the results.
On the technical side, it contains few photographic elements: only the foreground cliff and parts of the clouds (which have been modified A LOT) are based off photos. Original size is 4000x2288px.
I've submitted it to EXPOSE 4, though I'm not having too much expectations on this ;)

Absolutely Beautiful. I really like this. :applause:
It's serene, peaceful, quiet and still, but at the same time there is something slightly ominous and sinister. I can almost smell the fresh air and hear the sound of the gentle breeze through all those trees, whispering in unison. I just want to go into the scene and follow the winding river.
Great composition also. :thumbsup:
The clouds are stunning - I especially love the patches in the distance where the moonlight beams through. :D
Two minor crits however;
1) I think the moon is a little too bright. To the extent that it could possibly be mistaken for the sun.
2) Although I do love the green forest of trees, and the colour works very well; I think they are slightly monotonous. So, perhaps a very subtle variation of greens would improve the realism of the scene - As in nature not every single tree's leaves are exactly the same colour of green. Even if they are all the same species of tree, younger trees tend to have lighter leaves, while older trees tend to have darker. :wise:
Excellent job though, well done. I wish you luck on this getting in to EXPOSÉ 4. ;)

Nice work
My crits:
The trees are laid out almost perfectly. See the irregularities in this photo (http://www.nature.ca/discover/field/anderson/1998/images/venview_l.jpg). Also, mountains are rarely covered in trees, if they are then the mountains are probably not very tall. There is also the problem near the river, it's as if the trees are growing even on the very edge of the water itself. That's not impossible, but there would have been some areas where there would be less trees and a bit more of the shore showing up.
But overall it is well done and looks good, can't wait to see your next piece!
