View Full Version : Pearl Necklace

I constructed a pearl necklace using a sweep nurbs for the lace and duplicate along spline for the pearls. What would be the best way to make it all move together? Path deformer would deform the pearls and MSA seems awfully complicated for 30+ pearls.

Hi,

I set up a working scene with the Replica plugin. If you don't have it, go and grab it, it's free.

here a little test:

and here the scene file:

Thanks. This looks interesting. However, someone suggested Jenna Iterator and I used it with great success.

This is my first test rendering. The scene is still very basic and I know the pearls need some work and the lace is crude, but I think it is coming along quite nicely. I used Jenna Iterator for the pearls placement and used some SSS in the material. zBlur was also used.

Here is a new version of the pearl necklace I have been trying to put together. I added Ambient Occlusion, some more luminosity and corrected the pearl shader color.

I rendered a multi-pass file but it came out very weird. Seems that zBlur doesn't play well with multi-pass and the AO turned the pearls all black. I tried to correct the multi-channels but could not get the image to look like the non multi-pass one.

A friend of mine is geologist and he helped me figuring out pearls attributes. Here is a new render, much more realistic. I also switched from SSS to translucent Pro and gained a lot of speed in the rendering.

And Strat, it is not the first time I see you ass comments on the forums. What's wrong with you buddy?

Was going to clarify what Strat probably meant--but changed my mind :)

Pearl Necklace is a crude/slang expression, that's what Strat was referring to. I wasn't aware of it until i looked it up.

Your pearls are looking great though. :)

You guys are terrible, going to get us all banned :-). You might want to make the pearls a bit smaller and bevel them a bit where the pass through the string, if possible, right now I think the proportions are off a bit. Also, pearl necklaces, not the dirty kind, seem to usually have a full chain of pearls without defined positions as yours are. It's a nice looking peice though. Good work,

Sorry but I am french speaking and to me a Pearl Necklace is a jewelry item. I never heard it in any other context.

About the pearls positions, good point. I intended to make a type of gold piece to put in-between the pearls, but maybe just making them all closer would look more appealing. For size, I want to make each pearl slightly different, but I am not sure how to do it within Jenna.

Just enter "pearl necklace" into google. The first hit should make the other meaning clear ;)

Your link is broken primitiv.

BTW--you can embed images right into the message.
When you post, just cick the yellow square above the text field. It has a mountain/landscape graphic on it. This allows you to post your image.

Sorry for the link. Here is the image link. The size is larger than what the forum allows. I am working on making it more realistic with a gold locket, and more realistic lace attachments with knots in between the pearls.
