This is a sketch of my idea..
I know that maybe I've not the ability to partecipate to this challenge..but I try to do my best and draw better as possible!
The idea comes from the wonder that children suggest to me in everything they do.
There are some elements that I'm not able to draw (as like as the shutters, the visible ear,the kid looking upward,etc...)
To give more depth field I think I will change the width-heigth ratio...the marmalade will seem more unreachable and the journey more long/difficult..
I don't yet know if the final image will be more toonish or realistic..
I'll be glad if you'll comment and critic my work!
Maria
P.S. Sorry for my English

I put down some ideas on colors, risizing and funny dots (like the "holy being" of the jam pot and it's shining glints...)
What do you think about it?

Can anyone tell me how I can technically draw the shutters from that perspective? :arteest:
Is there a rule or somthing similar? I'm going crazy! :banghead:
Thank you!

I know that there will be many things to make better,to redraw,to change (also as idea) before putting down the details...but I cannot avoid to free my moment inspiration...!
Even if my work seems not to interest,I keep goin on!
It's my first challenge and I want to finish the project! :D
(otherwise my nick-name couldn't be "Fighting"!)
Cheers!!

hey FightingCalliope! funny concept u've got here. i think that it could be exaggerated even more by playing with perspective. maybe making the journey look even more difficult. lookin good though, hope to see some updates soon

Hi Maria... I'm glad to see you taking part in this 'journey' :D ! (sorry if I'm late to notice it, hehe) . well.. your idea is great. hehe, is very entertaining, cute, very original and very familiar (I'm guessing) to all of us!! We all have been there or to a similar journey. :D
Your perspective is fine. norvman gave you good guidance on the shutters. The kids proportions start looking good as well. The position you placed him you avoid a lot of details and that can make it easier for you because having almost no clothing is very hard to get it right. Be carefull with the foot and leg that he raises up.
Ok, few suggestions from me...
you could try having a lot more objects on the cabinets. I'd see the cabinet be full with objects so that the picture is more interesting and the journey is more challenging. Ofcourse the only challenge for you is to get the perspectives right of the objects. :)
I like the dippers to be like the army ones, as your latest update. Because in that way you play with the idea of the boy acting like a soldier in a big mission. And that comedy/realism combination will look good in the entire picture. So I think you should keep this and use this idea more. You can try that for other elements, like on other objects or maybe adding that water-bottle that soldier carry around their waist. Or how about a couple of leafs or very few and small grass in some places to get the realistic/imaginary contrast? Just some ideas you could try out.
I also like the sparks and shines you added on the cherry jar in the previous updates. It makes it be very important and shows is the goal and destination of the journey. Also, maybe when you start adding shadows you can play around with some color contrast to make it more interesting, for example: you could have more darker shadows and colors in the bottom where the kid and the starting point is, and more lights where the jar is. Very subtle shadows and lights, nothing black or with too much contrast, but just so you could create a soft sort of "path" or a sort of more drama/comedy feeling to the picture. Just a suggestion! :)
Anyway.. sorry for the long reply... I hope I helped and not got you confused!! :D hehe I'm subscribed so I'll be checking out your process! Keep up  Ciao!!

Thank you Loris for the wholly useful reply!
-I'm trying to re-found the vanishing point so to draw the expected shutters!
-I'll work on the leg-foot raising proportion as soon as possible;
-I haven't fill the cabinets of all-kinda-things because, for now,a wanted to focus on the main elements, but I'll do it! :banghead:
-As you can see in the very first concept sketch,I started playing with the soldier-in-mission objects (can find a binocs at shoulder belt..).
I've also thought to let the boy wear a bandage around his head like Rambo (http://index.hu/cikkepek/0501/kult/rambo.jpg) or Karate Kid (http://www.oneposter.com/UserData/Poster/Poster_13146.jpg) :lightbulb (gimme cues about it please! )
Really glad that my work is liking!!
Cheers!

I like your idea of the scarf around the head like Rambo...
maybe a one of those little stick on bandaids on his knee or elbow... might indicate that he has attempted this or something like it before...
ha! This idea a too cool...:bounce:
Also... your perspective on the jar is off... It looks a bit like it is tipping out of the cabinet...
don't know if that is what you were wanting or not...
use your vanishing point from your origonal cabinet and do this...http://www.norvomics.com/image/perspective_002.jpg
draw a square in perspective ...
draw lines from corner to corner to find the middle...
draw lines to cut square in half both ways...
you should have your exact placement points for the top, bottom and sides of your circle in pretty much perfect perspective...
Hope that helps....

...and then they (the shutters) come!
I've changed also the perspective of the jar...but is not definitive... :banghead:
C&C are more than welcome!! :-D

Hey maria, the shutters look good. Maybe have the picture wider because now the shutters are right on the edge of the picture and I think it should have more space to breath on the sides. Nothing too much.
Also, the jar's perspective needs more fixing. the bottom should be wider than its top. Try drawing a box as a guideline in the jars position, the same perspective way you worked the kitchen, and then draw the jar inside that box. It will help you to get the perspective right.
Keep up !!

hey nice short journey for the little rambo eh,:)
it'll be fun to see it when finished. also jar still needs some more perspective, i think i will be better if you show it as if its a very important artifact (something holy looking).
glimmering, shiny etc. etc...
dont forget to use the perspective on the middle area too (squares)
good luck
by the way your a good critic (i followed the link from one of your critiques) i'lll be glad if you leave me your comments too.:D
peace:scream:

make sure everything in the cabinet has the same vanishing point. your perspective is quite severe, so anything that doesn't have the vanishing point will appear to be leaning forward.
maybe the baby could be climping arm over arm up on of those ninja grappling hooks? it seams like he has a pretty involved set of mountain climbing gear set up that might be distracting.
also, if his imagination is kicked in, he's probably going to be picturing things like barbed wire and jungle plants all over. maybe a big snake. rambo stuff.
keep up the good work!

I just noticed that you were working on this competition. Great concept! I cannot wait to see how this turns out. The baby with the "military" look gives it more humor verus the traditional baby look.
Hmm.. instead of binoculars hanging from him, perhaps you could try other toys? Such as baby teething keys (to unlock something maybe), or have a baby nerf gun or something like that? If you like the binoculars, maybe it could be one of those toys that look like binoculars but has the little story inside them? You click it to the next scene.. I wish I remembered what they were called!
Anyway, great work so far and it looks like you're getting the prospective down.
:) Good luck!
I and my friends long laughed.)))) interesting idea, this travel is valid. Success to you!!!
