SHEPEIRO 03-09-2006, 10:36 AM hi, i recently half modelled a ship http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=308506&highlight=duck
recently ive picked up again on the medeivil armourewd space ship idea again.
this time its the ship to end everything, armagedon with retro boosters.
im gonna aim for 15k to 20k with 2048* maps ( normal spec and colour) with a 512 reflection map.
ive made a start on blocking out the modelling (to check the design works) and some of the high poly work.
heres the trial model sheet
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c346/Shepeiro/trailmodel.jpg
heres some the high rez (250k) model of the skull, which will be the "cockpit" got a bit carryed away with it as i thought theres alwys a use for a well modelled skull.
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c346/Shepeiro/skulls5.jpg
and heres an update of the model with a few of the placeholders replaced by high polys.
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c346/Shepeiro/firstsekection2copy.jpg
sorry i cant show you the concepts, me scanners gone wrong, sommit to do with scanning in bricks.... dont ask.

I really like this design...its just different and looks sweet. The only thing on it that is bothering me are the balls at the end of the...engines. Those things on the sides, I am guessing they are the weapons...I really like them forward more. The version bottom right of your first pic. This thing is awsome cant wait to see the finished product! Keep it coming!

retardedmonkey- the balls are just temporary place holders for a spine like wing system.
the weapon/sheild pods will be on the end of arm like stuctures so that they will move forward in backwards flight and backwards in reverse.
heres a little update of whats going on with the weapon/sheild pod. pretty pleased with it but i know its gonna be pain in the preverbial to uvw effeciently.

Back still needs alot of work?
what do you think?

Details look very nice and believable, a neat work, very eye-catching. Keep on!

I'm getting an Einhander vibe here. And that's a good thing. :) Really nice shapes and overall design (I like the three-armed version), and lovely high-poly modelling. That skull looks fantastic.

Been too busy with my DS level (click here for link) (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=327185) for the UGAC to get much done this weekend, ewww the pull of those eight colour sheets. but will get some done on this tonight. high poly then low poly high poly then low poly high poly then low poly relief

yo boys and girls.
a little update, havew done alot of the engine "armour"
the intake is gonna be like a mouth, kind of like a sharks mouth with rows of inward pointing teeth.
did the little tail/spine at back aswell(well nicked it from previous project.

This is shaping up nicely. I like the sharkteeth idea for the intakes; kinna creepy. :p Nifty looking shader/material you've got on it. Makes it look nicely ominous.

ok just another engine update.
*redid the exhausts as they were too busy, and not readable befor.
*redid alot of the edging on the main armour, its subtle but i hope effective.
*added some of the "tendons" in the legs. and started to work on th main mesh.
Einhander- you say, checked it out i kind of see what you mean in terms of the main shape, but my main inspiration is alot of HR Giegers works. that kind of Body-Machine Horror.

another engine update, made some good headway on the arms "muscle" structure.

Nice updates. Yeah, I'm definitely getting a Giger vibe from these latest updates, especially the ribbing you've added in the latest shot.

ok update time. most of the "legs" done, just got to finish a few points, with meshsmoothing, each one comes to 250k eeek so full model (1mil and half done) almost crumples my computer. got the teeth in the mouth, pretty sorted, just need to finish off a few loose muscle ends, and add some more nerves along the spine.

its being a pain in the proverbial at mo, need to split mesh up and optimise so i acn work on body as presently its crushing my poor puter

Wow! far out concept! so much detail. Im definitely getting some virtual on/zone of the enders vibes when i see this. canīt wait to see it textured!!

right finished off the engine, it comes in at 600K eeeeek. so i might have to buy some more ram or another computer to put this model together.
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c346/Shepeiro/voidengine5.jpg
heres a clay shot with the materials i have a t mo its a little bit difficult to see whats going on.

03-28-2006, 08:29 AM
oh and youll have to use a little imagination here, as the engines are placeholders so that i could actually do some modelling on the main body, basically ive just done the back, will add a few details to it , and some asymetry
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c346/Shepeiro/voidship5.jpg
What do you think
LoTekK
03-28-2006, 10:30 AM
Wow, that is insaaaaane. That is one badass ship, that's for sure. :buttrock: Love the specular... looks so slimey... :argh:
the engine...comes in at 600K
Ouch! Looks well worth it, though. Fantastic stuff, great detailing. Any chance of some wires? :p
SHEPEIRO
03-28-2006, 11:14 AM
cheers, i dont think wires would be much good as mesh is pretty dense, they would have to be high res, will see what i can do.
i decided with this model, that i have alot of ok stuff, but nothing really killer, so im going all out with this puppy. ESP as its been a idea that i have had for ages, so i want to do it well. hopefully it will be my ticket outta here (temporary crap employment that is)
still got a long way to go though, plenty of chances to muck it up.
and several major bits of modelling, even on the highpoly:
* chest plate/rib cage will have a human corpse streched across it like a sacrifice or punishment
* weapon arms, not as detailed as engine legs, and as yet undesigned
thanks for looking
* neck and finish head/cockpit, the pilot will be inside the skull, had plenty of ideas but nothing solid yet.

That sounds wicked sick. :buttrock: Can't wait to see what you come up with.

well heres a start on what i meantioned above.
weapon arm is done, connected most of body and made a good start on the breastplate/sacrifice ting. Im just using an old model but im gonna do some zbrushing on it, to give it some decay, pain and suffering. also need to add more stretched skin/metal to break up the "ribbing" and other inncidental detail.

ok pretty big update time,
nearly finished, optimised those engines down a fair bit, so entire model comes in at 900,000
just about workable on screen.
just need to tie up a few ends and add some more metal skin, and details. oh plus do cockpit.

bit rough but will do.

It looks awesome, though the girl on the chest plate, is a little to gruesome for me. So that kind of dryed my whistle. None the less, it is great, and looks as if it belongs in a contra movie.

Owen, I'd love to comment but my only decent skills lie in texturing. Hard for me to comment on the modeling or the art (have a degree in business, go figure :) ). Would be interesting to see it in some form of context or environment, I guess I'd understand it more.
By no means does the lack of replies mean something bad, I definitely don't think so anyway, it's looking absolutely fab :D Can't wait to see it textured, will really make this already awesome piece :D

04-19-2006, 09:31 AM
I have to agree with the above poster. Great work, good texturing, but the girl on bottom feels a little misogynistic.
Why not cocoon her in with some of the bio-cabling you have going?
SHEPEIRO
04-21-2006, 10:41 AM
m_luscombe and others- i have to agree with you about this, its the weakest part of the model and deserves a redesign. i wanted her chest to be shrivveled but i think i went a little too far, may fix this, and a few other bits a bobs. like the idea of coccooning her more (esp as it will make low poly easier/less tris)
anyway did some low poly modelling heres the engine, about 3500 tris eeek, with a test normal map at 1024* will probably get more space (150%) in final uvw setup as it will be part of 2048* map

brilliant work so far, i may never sleep again
what's the mesh look like on the low-poly?
SHEPEIRO
04-24-2006, 08:11 AM
cheers folks,
heres the wires, think i may optimise some more, as i would really like to get this done in 15k and 3.5k for each engine will make that hard.
