HI all.

This is the rough concept sketch for the layabout of my image. The idea behind it is that there are two little aliens, who unbeknownst to them, find themselves on a train track somewhere. They've probably crash landed close by, and are setting of in search of civilization, they are probably thinking that the man made track will lead them to it.

Besides being small they are already at a disadvantage. On each of their backs sits a wind up mechanism (you can see the female alien winding up her alien comrade). They'll loose energy and eventually die, unless there is someone around who can wind it up for them. Oh and there is a train heading towards them.

This is going to be fun.
Good luck to all

INteressant idea. I think it would be better if they go for something far in the picture (like something that can give them energy). It would give more an idea of a journey that a train coming in frot of us. Or the train could go the same direction than them and so they are alone now..
On the picture itself I really like the composition.

You're off to a great start. It's a really nice idea and I'm already concerned about those aliens. That little guy sure looks tired. I'm looking forward to seeing this one.

:applause: I really like your concept... It has a good sense of scale, and expresses the character's feeling well.... Is there any reason why they need to be aliens, and not just toy robots?

Good Morning

SO, last night I resolved to put something in the distance, which will represent their destination. After 3 hours of repainting, moving, scaling and flipping, I ended up exactly where I started.

The result of my hard work can bee seen as a tiny image of a city in the background, Aaaarghh!!!

I need less haste and more speed.

Here is a basis concept sketch of the alien guy (the tired one).

I'm keeping them as aliens, I guess because I like the idea that they could die if they aren't wound up, whereas A toy would just start again when you wind them up.

Very original! I love the idea of the creature being or like depending on a wind-up mechanism... it adds en element of *tension* Other than that i'd say great composition.

I really like the idea. I think it could be interpreted as they are just wind up toys on a train track and I don't think it would lose any of its power. I love it my friend! :)

Your concept idea is just wonderful. I can see that funny trip of your outlanders, how they have to be together in order to survive. Give us some 3D! Keep it up

Sorry guys, I'm going a bit slow. Doing two jobs and the challenge is realy eating my time, not to mention that I finally bought Shadow of the Colossus (it was only recently released in SA).
What an awsome game.

I got up early this morning, to finish up my character profile sketch. His name is Akik and the female is called Kikin, my girlfriend gave them names.

Looking at him I feel his head in the front view is a bit wide, I'll have to change that. Hopefully I can squeese in some modelling time.

To everyone who have posted coments so far, thanks for the kind words, I'm glad you guys and gals like it.

Go good

I am going to reuse these words originally postet by another challenger: There are so much great character in this challenge. And this akik one is not the least.
For something constructive, I am thinking about bigger feet in order to balance big head and back mechanism. aaah, just messing around :scream: Keep going

Hello every body

Squeesed in some modelling time, and stared with Akik's head.

It's still very early in development, I still need to fix the head shape in the front view and I'm not happy with the topology of the mesh, especialy from the eyes down to the mouth, wait, that is all of the mesh.

Any how, still lots to do

nice start, although i have to say i prefered the more rounded head like on your last concept image.

Now that's the way to go! Those eyes could really sell it in the end, just think you might wanna work on it some more...The detail on the face is really nice, you got the shape right - maybe a bit more sharp edges - although seeing the rest would impress me more...Yeah! Keep going.
