Could someone give me advice on buying a graphic tablet? I was thinking of getting a smaller one because of price but I'm concerned it'll just make me mad when I want to make strokes bigger then the tablet. My main reason for wanting one is my mouse sucks.

I was leaning towards an intuos 2 or 3 because they have more presure sensativity levels although 1024 doesn't seem like much to me compared with a normal pencil.

I was also leaning towards 9x12 but those are expensive.

Is there a less expensive battery less brand?

Go with Intuos. I reluctantly did only was able to score an open box deal on the 6x8 at Amazon, but I'm a believer now. These badasses are worth the money, even at full price. I will never go back. The deal I found is a rare one as I had been looking for pens for my old Graphire by searching "Wacom" at Amazon and mentally filtering what I was after. I HAVE seen the 9x12s listed at $220 used (or maybe open box), but never looked into it because they are too big for my workstation.

Make like Nike and "Just Do It". You will be glad you did, especially if you're a lefty like me. Be prepared, though, there is a learning curve even if you're pretty good with a sketch pad and pencil

I would definatlly go with a Wacom. They rock and have amazing support with every graphics program worth useing. 1024 is plenty of sensitivity to knock your socks off and you can adjust how the sensitivity is controled.
I think that the 9X12 is a bit to large really I only use it when I am wanting to use it on dual monitors. I have one and opt for my 6x9 which I think is the best size.

Wacom has a patent on the batteryless pen. The other brands use batteries.
