Hi all, This my first time for join the cgtalk challenge.

This my 1st sketch. for this concept.

My idea for this challenge came from dream when I was young I always think that every times I opened the book myself has begun to journey in it story. Especially for the Fairy tales. Then I realize that I got a topic that is every times I open a book my journey has begins but this time not just me that journey but I will take everyone join it too .

Ah ... There's one thing that I want to tell you guys for the first time my girlfriend want to join this challenge too, but we're accidentally have a same idea for challenge. Then she decide to that she'll let me go on in this challenge and she'll be behind and gave me a push up for this.

So I won't let her down on my work for sure.

hmm.. looking at it again I have a small suggestion SINAD. I was also wondering how it may look like if in the foreground there was no hand of the "viewer" but maybe trying without it and have the girl having her hand open and looking at the viewer. so that she will be inviding us to this journey. Just a thought!! :D

1st detail : A main idea for this work I want to make viewer can come into the land of imaginary. So I want to use this 2 children come to invite to visit this world with them.

2nd detail : Background detail at the right of 2nd sketch.

I've bring some important scene from well know fairy tales.

Ex. Snowwhite , Rapunsel , Little Red Ridinghood , Alice in Wonderland etc.

Wow! I hadn't seen your other sketches before, so this just totally took me by surprise. This is great! Really great!

The only usggestions I have would be about some of the critters around the 2 main characters: The placement of the rabbit is a little awkward. What if you moved it so there was more space around the girl's head? Right now it's just a little cramped... or maybe she actually does have a rabbit growing out of her hair..?

Also, The dog on the right isn't doing much of anything right now... Have you considered turning him to face the viewer as well?

Lastly, the tower in the second detail is tilded slightly to the left but the ground is tilted a lot to the right and there's a mismatch. Perhaps leaning it to the right will not only make it match the ground plane it's sitting on, but also form a compositional "radius" pointing back at the focus of the picture in the lower center.

Anyhow, can't wait to see how this one comes out. Great work so far!

Love the colors! I'm a little bit confused as to the direction of the journey. It looks like the character will come towards the viewer, but there's not enough to indicate there's anything but a nice, flat path. I'm sure you're working on the rest of the picture and all issues will be addressed as you see fit. I look forward to this one!

Hello, Sinad. Firstly - great concepts! Really nice idea that is put onto paper with a good style.

But as Mike ( walrus ) said - you could consider some composal changes to the image. What I think you should do as well is make a guidelines for vertical lines all over the image, cause the second, third and fourth castles in the background interfere with the vertical lines that are put in the plane in front of them - the waterfalls and the rocky valley. If the second one is hanging, it still would remain vertical position. But other than that - it's a really great sketch.

Man... can't wait how the third will look like

This sketch I've try to change the way to express my idea. The style have change but the concept still the same that everytime when we're open a books we'll journey in the world of those books.

For this one that I've change the style 'cause the 2nd sketch it just show the landscape of fairy tales world, but it doesn't show an important scenes from those story. So for this 3rd sketch I want to show important scenes that everyone who see this pic can reconize that which story it cames from. And the scene that I've chose it's the scene that I want it to retold that the journey has begins.

These 2 character that I'll use for real work. The story behind these character is they're got into the world of fairies tales and traveling from story to another story. While they're traveling in Fairies tales world they got a friends from those story too. It just look alike an RPG game.

Explanation for these character :
For the boy I use his costume like he wear form the world that he came from, but he had some equipment that he get from his journey too.

And for the girl in her hand will hold a megicalbook that is the gate that bring them here.

And for the megicalbook ...........
(to tell the truth that I got no idea bout it for now ....... TT_TT )

03-22-2006, 06:26 PM
Wow, it's like Jack and Jill (or Hansel and Gretel) if there were a Final Fantasy game made about them!
Looks good... but which overall layout are you using? I hope you use #2, the big landscape one. I feel that one held together more as a single piece and fit the theme more too.

Hi SINAD, fantastic characters, I like very much the design of them, the girl's dress is really good, I am not so sure about the blade of the boy, i donīt find it suitable for a fairytale, in another environment it would be very cool, but it's only my opinion. I too like better the layout from second sketch. I know your final image will be awesome as usual. Keep it up.
