If your company is doing regular spots, i would recommend you rent a professional camera every time you get another job, rather than using consumer cameras. It will cost you about $1400 per day for a full setup (monitor and camera gear).

But, if it HAS to be between those two, don't get the XL2. I love that camera dearly, but it's SD not HD, and for your particular work, you need HD.

You definitely want to buy one and aren't willing to rent?

What's your price range? Under $20k? Under $200k?

Well We certainly we want to get the best we can get of course on the budget,
I have read something now about HD and as far as I understood , there still not a a real HD that can be accesible for us the mortal-on-a-budget-geezeers,
However I will know which options HD camcorders are out there on a accesible price or if I can say in another way, do you know if there are some cams HD under 20 K?

Many Thanks!

There are certainly consumer HD cameras that aren't bad, and are true HD. I couldn't recommend one though, because i'm not too clued in on consumer HD cameras, though i'm sure there are people on this board who are.

If it were me, i'd rent the gear on a per job basis, but if you absolutely must purchase one, you can do ok for about $8000.

There are stations that don't accept HDV as HD. They class it as SD due to its level of compression.

DVCProHD is accepted as an HD format by all television stations. So if that is your market, then the cheapest you can go is with the HVX200 as it shoots in DVCProHD.

But if you are serious, I would heed Matty's advice and get camera's on a per job basis. Especially at this point in time when technology is in such a transitional phase.

You might also check www.dvxuser.com (http://www.dvxuser.com) there are alot of helpful people on that site that are all about cameras and equipment. They also have alot of footage available comparing different HD cameras.

Right, one question, what are you doing? is it advert/short film/feature film/promo work? that wiil guide you to what camera you want. from personal experience if you are doing short/feature film work then go for the JVC HD camera, (JVC GY-HD101e) the big difference it has over its "consumer" competetors is that it sports a fully manual lens, thus giving you control as close as you are going to get to the real deal (eg 16/35mm) its a great camera to work with and i have used the sony HD and the Canon XL 2 as well, in my books there is nothing that gives you a better cinematic look to your work, coupled with a 35mm converter (a lens converter) it is almost as good as 35mm its self check out http://pro.jvc.com/prof/attributes/features.jsp?tree=&model_id=MDL101539&itempath=&feature_id=01

ok, have fun..
