CGTalk - animating vertex points

For the moment i am using 3D studio max.
I want to deform a object in animation with the vertexpoints.
My question is, can you animate a vertex in a poly object? If that so, how do i do that?

Stick a meshedit, or polyedit modifier on it. Or convert it to a editable poly/mesh - subobject mode verts. Animate on > move the verts.
