View Full Version : Character:Assasin
ApEx_V 03-08-2006, 08:04 PM Hi guys
I finished this model last night approx 4.5 hours to model the character and about 40 mins for each of the weapons with the exception of the knife which took all of about 10 mins
the character comes to 4702 tris and the weapons are 2857 tris combined.

ok a little background if youve made it this far.. he is loosely based on the vindicare assasin any players of Warhammer 40k will probably recognise him. he is the first character im making for a new realtime demoreel which will be a cutscene/in game action scene from a hypothetical game based on yup you guessed it warhammer 40k.
i wont be doing the textures for him untill my modelling phase is completed in a few weeks as well i have to teach myself normal mapping i havent really played with that yet
anyway expect a few more models from this collection to be up soon!
any crits on the modelling, mesh, physical aspects of this anatomy or general observations would be greatly welcomed!! thanks!

I used to play Warhammer 40k when I was younger, their charcters are awesome and it looks like you picked a good one to do. Mesh looks really clean and you modeled it pretty fast too.
I'm not the most experienced guy but isn't nearly 3000 tris on the weapons a bit much? Also I always though of the vindicare assasain as a bit more sleek looking and not so bulky, although its been a long time since i've seen one ;)
Keep updating

hey man thanks for the support.. yeah i do think hes a little bulky mainly on the arms and legs i need to adjust the length of his arms aswell they still look a little long. im not sure about the weapons. i havent really readup on low poly for ages.. to behonest i havent done 3d in ages. been stuck in an IT job doing database design for the last two years and well ive decided to chase my dreams again .. anyhoo. I made a rifle for a mod for BF1942 a while back and i think .. hold on ill check. yep 2308 tris for that rifle. and was working towards a 2500 limit that i got from dice's own weapons so i guess 2857 poly for the rifle pistol and knife together aint really too bad is it ? i dunno could be wrong.
cheers for the support ill try playing with his arms a little and post my fixes soon!

Your probably right about the weapon, I was just guessing really ;)
Just noticed a couple of other things (bare in mind, I'm no pro). Maybe you could add an extra loop around the neck seems a bit sparse compared to the rest of the model.
Also, I think the main problem with the arms is the anatomy, I think the region around the bicep is a lot bigger that it should be. If you look at an anatomy book the deltoid sort of overlaps that area and at the moment its being dwarfed by the bicep. The forearm also looks like it could use another loop just to define the muscle a bit more instead of the one long extrusion.
The head, torso and backpack look pretty bang on to my untrained eye. The legs seem a bit on the large side and his bum is a bit large too ;) If I were you give him thinner legs, but still with good muscle definition, to give him a more stealthy feel. Also spread the loops out more evenly.
I really like the model but just picking apart things I would maybe do differently. Looks awesome though :D Keep updating if you texture or change him.

Heh you know soon as I saw your character I immediately identified it as the vindicare assasin. Well everyone else has pretty much said everything I would about the model, maybe add a loop around the neck. I cant wait to see it done. Also good to see another warhammer 40k fan heh.

I think you can maybe substract some Poly. And do some détails on your final diffuse map.
You can try? ^_^'
And why do you give this position for the legs? that a strange Vinci Position O_o.
You can maybe have some problem for Construct your final "Bones Setup" with IK-chain.
