Hum.. I am prety shure this is what I wan´t from my image in terms of idea, this sketch is just for me to get the general action and camera of the scene, as well as the atention focus.
For the journey I was thinking those very little fellows, the garden explores.. wich, sick of his own garden would like to get into an incredible and prohibit journey to the neighbor´s garden, wich has a GREAT toy castle and the grass grows greener! (but they must face a lot of troubles, like for instance, the neighbor´s cat!) hope you like it!

Hey Fabio,
I like your fantasy type concept and your colors in your sketch are great. I think I would have a larger gate or lower walls so the viewer can see more of whats on the other side. Just a thought. Have fun with this.

I like your sketch. Are you going to begin modeling soon?

Just the start of the modeling process. For the modeling I want to do a very simple polygon modeling, of the character and the scene objects, and then setup and layout the scene (for time purposes) then I will datail the models into z-brush, so that the more time I have the more complex the model will look. Doing this I can have a finished layout of the scene and just improve it. For me is better than work on a model for ages and finaly miss the deadline... wich I am most afraid of. This version of the hat is just for layou purpose and might not be the final one, as well as the shaders. Hope you like it =) and thanks for the coments!

This is more or less the basic shape of the character, only it will have a hat. My goal now is to concentrate in the modeling of the cenario elements. My plan is, once I do that, I will block the scene with all the elements, some holdplacer shaders and an almost final light scheme. With that the mood of the image will be there as well as the concept of the scene. Then I will start adding details like "z-brushed" characters, final textures and shaders and all the post effects like fog and D.O.F. Expect It goes as planed, and expect I finish it in time

Hey Fabio, interesting character...like the "semi-realistic" fingers (with suckers or thicker tips?)...also nice modeling work in your portfolio. Looking forward to seeing more...fun concept. --The grass is ALWAYS greener, isn't it?
Good luck!

one more modeling milestone. As a mather of fact, it is most a setup milestone, but since there is no setup milestones I should put it into modeling. This update is basicaly the finished rigged character, with a hat control =) and two expressions blendshapes this far. the goal is to transforme that model into 4 diferent characters of tha same race using blendshapes, details in z-brush and texture work... I hope I can get it all done!
Just in case you are wondering, the hat control was donne by adding a "blank" parametter that I called chapeu, wich means hat in portuguese, and liked it with the visibility of the hats in the set driven key dialog, so wen hat is on "1" that means visibility of hat 1 is ON and the visibility of the other hats are OFF.
Hope this is usefull to anyone =)
thanks again for everyone that is supporting me =)

This is the most dificult part to me so I would realy be thankfull if anyone can give me the personal opinion about the final camera, the framing of the scene, the balancing between elements and all that, to make the scene natural. In this image everything is prety much drafted and disposed as I would like. But maybe it is dificult for anyone to know what is going on. so I would realy apreciate some colaboration. In advance, thank you all!

hehehe YOU MUST BELIEVE!! hehehe bora, companheiro, se a gente conseguir terminar este challenge, vai ser um milagre! hehehe No time at all to finish all this, especially with my moving, now. But hey- maybe I´ll try anyway :). About your image- the one thing that I would comment at this point would be to lower your camera a bit, so that the castle acquires a more grandiose feeling to it. Without depth of field, fog, etc, and this flat camera point of view, the castle looks like it´s a maquette that´s about 4 meters away, in another room. Other than that, the characters feel like they might be floating a bit over the floor. With occlusion, etc., you´ll stick them to the floor better, but what I think is lacking is in the modeling, actually. For instance, where their feet meet the ground, the flesh underneath would flatten on the bottom, which would help in lending the figures a sense of weight. And last, but not least, I would probably try and thicken their arms/hands a bit, even if they are supposed to be thin anyway. Especially the one on the left. And that´s it :). Good luck! IOD ? Ce saiu do msn, por sinal? Abraco!

This is prety much how all my shaders and textures will work, I will create maps in zbrush and photoshop to reflection, specular, color and displace for each piece of the scene. for the characters parts that are made of flesh I will use a sub surface scatering shader atribute. I plan on rendering the scene in mental ray, if any of you have any questions I would be glad to post more explaining images or text! thank you.

This is a first test, with textures lights and shader, I think this would be the layout of the lights I will just add elements like volume light and fog and so on... but the mod is setled, I think. Any sugestions?

I would try to get the castle in the doorway to glow (its the destination). So some sort of glow light or material emittance on everything behind the door would work really nicely I think.

this is like a very rough precomp for me to put everything were it must be and check what elements are dissonant with others, I am realy not sure of the unfocussed plants in the foreground, what do you guys think? well this is prety much how my image will be exept that the background will be a bit more detailed and I want the elements to have a diferent (better) color correction. thats all! thanks folks

So they started the journey into the unknow dangers of the neighbour garden, a secret garden with many explendid surprises, where the grass is aways greener and the toy castle is the utimate prize for gardner explorers.

Talking about poetry, your story reminds me of pink floyd's "high hopes", when he sings about the grass which is greener and the light was brighter.
It matches a lot with your scene. I like it.
Good luck.
