This is a blueprint for the rider of the cart. He is a gypsy, traveling from one town to another, trading, stealing and bar hopping. He has been doing this since he was born, actually he was born in a similar cart, on the road.
He is a pixie, so the world he interacts in is really small. He has no magic powers. I don't know his age, but it would be way over 40 in human years.
I will try to give him more or less of a melancholic expression. I want him to look a little bit bored, as no mater how epic the next journey is, he has seen it all.
This image has no clothes on him, I am still designing those. His skin will be blue, with white tattoos on his forehead and arms. Further images will show him a little bit better.

This is the cart in which he is traveling. It is being pulled by two field mice. It's funny, but I just took a look at other entries for this challenge, and there are a couple of mice in production already. :)
Anyways... This is the cart. I am trying to make it as functional as possible, everything on that cart serves a purpose and can be replicated in real life (or at least that's how I want it to feel).
The wooden seat with a cushion is for him to sit on during the day. The tent behind him provides shade and rain protection, but it could also be used for sleeping in, you just climb into it, and put your feet on the seat where you just were.
The cart with goods will be behind, on those two huge wheels.
Couple of ideas i am toying with, is the protection for this cart. Being a small size, there will be a number of predators that would love to get a taste of those two field mice.
One idea is to put a bird's skull on top of all the goods at the back of the cart, to threaten away the potential attackers. And another idea is to arm my gypsy with a scorpion stinger, as a spear.
I do like the bird's skull idea, but I am still a little bit hesitant regarding his armament.

"a melancholic expression. I want him to look a little bit bored, as no mater how epic the next journey is, he has seen it all."
Ahhhwck, no one has seen it all, even meancholy pixies. Make this little guy happy and fun, it will influence the way your viewers interpret the work -- lift up their spirits and raise your chances to win.
Also, can't tell but it seems you've smoothed the wheel treads and canopy support in your last render -- or, it is just too distant to matter. If that is the distance from which you will render your final image that should be fine, but it seems as if in your earlier renders poly edges were too evident.
All in all, very very nice...looking forward to seeing the end result. Great potential! (Hope it makes peope happy!)

Why spokes on the front wheels and not on back or vice versa?

Nice "Pixie", and interesting concept, although I agree with oceanbluesky that he could be happy about that next journey.

Hey, thanks for replies. I'm working on this on my own hours after work (as most of the artists here), so the updates are a bit slow, hopefully I'll have enough time for this.
As for a few questions and comments.
The front wheels are being "spoked" compared to the solid back wheels, is simply weight distribution (I think). I'm not an engineer, but I would think that a smaller lighter wheel is more suitable for the front, which only caries the weight of the rider and the tent structure. The back wheels are beefier since they carry the main load of the cart. I think it just communicates better the weight and mass of the cart, with those wheels.
Plus the front can be separated from the back, and could be ridden as a Roman two wheel carts, just for recreation or light/fast traveling.
Happy vs Melancholic, I just don't envision this character to be cheerful. The best he can do is to smirk at something. Not that he is nasty, or bad, its just his character. I don't know what would make him smile, definitely not another journey to another town... :)

Well backup with your theory about the cart wheels DeepFish, totally agree with you plus it adds character to the cart. Looking nice!

That's a great-looking cart. The design and detail within it are fantastic. I'm wondering what choice you'll make for the cart's construction materials, in order for it to be light enough to be hauled by two mice. All those mechanical details look superb.

Just a little bit of more work on the cart itself. Thinking of how to create the tent for the back of the card, that would be functional, but still wouldn't cover up the contents of the cart for the viewer.

Just a first rough doodle of the main character in Z-brush. I modelled him fully, but was just playing with his head for texturing/color. He also needs clothes now :)
