Hi all!:wavey:
Welcome back to an another challenge... and what a challenge... like this new theme, lot of idea, lot of possible directions... must defrag :wip: .... anyway, i've some prefered versions, want perhaps to make something with a "tooned-tuned"-Spermatozoide going for a longest journey ...but perhaps not the good idea not really "epic", always epic image must be done for these challenge... :arteest: ... Or perhaps i can do a mysterious girl, looking the horizon to see the long way to the giant bonzai... .....( Any ressemblance with past challenge is purely coincidential.)
But it's really cool that this new challenge begins, and i wish you all good work and good fun!!
Good luck all!!
Let's go!! Beer for all!

Spermatozoide idea sounds great! It could be difficult to give it a strong emotional expression, but if you could it would be awesome. Looking forward to see what you come up with!

Hello, here's my first concept (ugly concept :s), want to make the beginning of a Space Journey, the pilot walking on the bridge, on the background we can see the Shuttle(not sure the good word?) always attached with some smoke, keeping is reactor hot, ready to go... with some light coming on the bridge trough the pipeline, and some technological stuff.... hope you see where i want to go... first concept. :p

The first one is not really original, and i'm not sure to do it, but i like this vertical format....need to defrag, the second concept, is really different, but not sketch for now, my hands don't like pen lol, i want to make a big tooned-parrot, take a branch on his shoulder, with at the end of this, his bag, walking in profile view from camera and taking a tresors map on his hand, ... and on the road we can see a panel which show how miles need to the next city, or something like that, must developp the idea, but i've the character good in my mind big fat parrot, i'll try to make a sketch... :wip:

Hello all!
I think i will go on with the first concept, but i don't want to make it hyper-realist, it will be the beginning of spatial journey but not on earth, don't wont to make some NASA style, i've begin the modeling, and try some light and compo, but i've a problem with my bridge grid, an the render i've got some strange "arch" as you can see on the image, perhaps the hole in the grid are too small, but i try to render on bigger resolution, always the same problem, anyone got an idea to correct this problem, but keeping the same size for hole? I'm working on Max 8, render with brazil.
Thanks a lot! :p

03-14-2006, 11:14 AM
hey man,...i think you have a very good idea, but i dont see any shuttle here, and probably it'll be better if you get rid of those pipes above the bridge, its some short of nuissance to the compostion and maybe you want to lower the camera angle a bit so the audience can see the sky above, the destination....well maybe. good luck and keep on going

Squibbit, thanks man, and i don't see link on your signature, well do you participate? :deal:
terminus_ad_quem, the shuttle will come for sure, for now it's only a cylinder, but it will be :)
For the camera, i think it can be a good idea, but as now i want to show the ground also, trough the grid, but i've got some problem on render. Anyway it's a very good idea, thanks a lot.
Glad to see you here ,interesting concept.
looking forward to see your worlk!

the modelling of that "bridge" is looking great
I guess that in the final image it will be more obvious that it is a shuttle ;)
about your problem with the grid, I don't think it has an easy solution, because I've seen that effect happening sometimes in real life... maybe try it with thicker grids, textured and lit, but if it's still happening (quite likely) you may have to change the grid... however probably everybody around here is more experienced in this than me, so....

Hi all! I've turn around my scene, and i perhaps want to change the compo, place the camera lower, but looking higher, to see the top of the shuttle, that will propably look more a ship, it give a best feeling of begin of the journey, the departure day, what do you think?
Also i want to place a second character, little girl attach at her father's leg, doesn't want him to go in the mysterious space journey....a little gril like the girl in Monster, perhaps 1 or 2 years more. But it's more work to do! lol

that's awesome,
I think if you make the lens more wide it would be better.
If the ship is important for you it's better to mirror those technological stuff!
or change it somehow
it gives you better composition and those stuff can lead eyes to your ship.
good modeling though
good luck

Great progress so far, the detail is brilliant :)
I believe the effect on the walkway is called Moire and is very common in my industry when dealing with small areas of high contrast like your bridge (black on white).
Glad to see you fixed it ;)

i wonder if you looked at the the pics from the inspiration section of the challenge? it resembles very much with one with a taking off shuttle..or space ship or whatevar.. just an opinion. oh... please loose the pipes . i ruins your composition as another guy here sayed. i dont wanna sound like giving lessons but grab a paintings book and look at composition with characters and look at Philip Straub's lesson of composition very helpful i can say. and for your grid problem you can get rid of it making the character walk on a transparent plexiglass boxes, some mray or brazil glass nice effect and you'll lose the grid stuff. and the sampler only makes your render last longer coz it super sapmples your antialiasing options on the material or object.i wouldn go for it if i was you because you;ve got some great geometry there but some big detail also and it might cost you some render time. good luck
cheers

I like! I like. Looks like stacks and stack of fun. Of what I've seen so far, I think your work has no flaw. The new angle, in my opinion ('cause I have one ) is really the way to go and if there's not going to be another character, maybe another element - like robot or luggage-carrier-machine-thingy or even a pet of some sort, I mean, I don't know...anything. The image could be balanced out more with another element in there. Go on with these articulated models. I like it.

Fantastic so far. I love the poses on the characters.
The only problem I see is that thgere are some tangents with the figures. There are few strong lines in the BG intersecting the characters in a less than appealing way. I would try to soften it somehow. color and atmoshpere may be the easiest way.
Best of luck, it's really looking great.

Hey Lombardo! Great sense of depth and emotion...really like your use of light and reflections, too. Love the little girl's bare feet. Very expressive scene. Looking forward to seeing your work in future challenges, good luck!

I like your scene and the pose of your characters. The POV shows off the emmense size of the spacecraft and other machinery. It conveys a real sense of warmth.
The only thing about it that I think would have helped would be to use more varied textures rather than having a smooth reflective surface to everything. I know that's probably not what you intended, but it's just a thought.
Looks great though:thumbsup:

-WOODY- ----> yeah, i know what you want to explain, but i think it will change this "mood" that i've here, i would like to keep a uniformity to all, it give some "smooth" feeling, to not disturb too the eyes. Thanks for support. Great final too.
Good luck all participants for judging!!

I like very much the final picture, congratulations on finishing this beautiful image! I exepcionaly like the "no texture" style, so the image is much cleaner and somehow reminds me of the japanese anime style, I don't know why . Good luck!
Great image , congrats man!

Scied ----> hehehe thanks, it's fun that it remind you japanese anime style, it's the feeling i would like to give, my principal inspiration and reference for this picture was "Honneamise no Tsubasa" from the Studio Gainax. Super kool image! Very dreamy and high tech looking. It took me a minute to pick out the eagle shaped nose cone on the rocket ship, very funky, I like it. The muted choice of colours and lighting and the slick surfaces are all very stylish. Great work. Good luck. :-)

I think it looks great, one concern though...whats keeping the girl from plunging to her death over the side of the catwalk? the handrails look fine for an adult (even though not very comforting im sure) but a kid better learn flying...

Hi all, thanks a lot for replies! :bounce:
Derferic---> thanks yes perhaps it's too vacuum. :/ but not a lot of time, and finally i like it a lot like that, it's a antoher style.:)
Greatto--->Thanks! Yes, no time, another style! I must hurry to finish, so i choose a render style very simple, and very "épuré", don't know how to say in english. Trying to approch 2D, but without cell shading render.
naresh---> Thanks Man, thanks a lot, it mean a lot for me.
stooch---> LOL, :D thanks man, yes, i didn't think about that, she can learn! We can say, that she follow her dad to take him a last time in her arms...:) Thanks again for reply.
Anatoli---> thanks!! I'll try to find your work, perhaps edit your signature, to help us to find it!
Thanks again all for replies and support!

Hi,
That's really impressive -- Your 2 characters really convey emotion well, and we don't even have to see their faces.
The environment has a great style to it. I hesitate to call it "retro"; it seems so overused, but it does have a touch of retro to it, in the streamlining and ornamentation on the rocket.
