I have a system that's been running fine for months. I haven't changed anything - I haven't added any new software - it's the same system as always.

Over the past several days it's been randomly locking up - but it generates no error messages. The system just freezes - I can't move the mouse, CTL-ALT-DEL does nothing, and the only way out is to turn the system off.

This is a P4 system running XP Pro SP2.

Any ideas on how to diagnose this? I have a huge project scheduled for next week, so I need to get this under control ASAP.

Figured it out - the northbridge chip fan had failed on my system.

HTH anyone else who has a similar problem.
