View Full Version : Sound synchronization
sporadic 03-08-2006, 12:07 AM I know this group mostly talks about the video side of things, but I'm hoping someone here can help me anyway. I'm having to do sound work on my short film, and I'm looking for something to do it in. Preferably something free. ;) I've tried working in after effects, but that's been rather difficult, so I've decided I need something else.
Are there any open source/shareware programs that do combined sound/video NLE out there? If not, does anyone know of anything that's at least decent that doesn't cost huge amounts of money?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

You could use Jashake , it's freeware or get a copy of Avid FreeDV which is a limited version(only 2 vidoe/audio tracks) of Avids Xpress editing software

Tagger: I've got a bunch of sound effects and the like that I need to get set at the right places in the video. I'm not doing a lot of modifications to these effects, so I think of it as more of a synchronization issue, but I am pretty clueless when it comes to sound, so maybe that's considered editting? I don't have a finished soundtrack, so I guess it is.
scrimski: Thanks, I'll look into that.

Sound synch is more, say, lining up a dialogue track with the video. I usually just use AE for my effects tracks, because I don't have a proper editing package (FCP, Premiere, Avid, etc) and AE can do basic edits just fine. . .
As far as how to place them, I just do trial and error. . . if it's an explosion, say, I'll try to find where I think the loudest part of the explosion will be--visually--and line up the audio track to match. Then I RAM preview it and find out how it sounds. It takes a while, and there's probably a more elegant way to do it, but it seems to work.
