View Full Version : Converting to Max
Abhinav3d 12-16-2002, 08:07 AM Hello Everyone,
I wonder if I can convert from Softimage to Max and Vice versa...
Can I import the model with textures and animation too...
I found a plugin on XSIFIles...
Any one has used the plugin..
Is it reliable enough...

you will need this plug in
http://sourceforge.net/projects/dotxsi4max/
now this will export a mesh from XSI to MAX
A for Max to XSI you will need to go into max then save your object as a .3ds then import it using Softimage 3D (classic) then save the scene into a Softimage 3D database, then go to XSI and import the SCENE from Softimage 3D
good luck and I hope it helps
cheers

No you dont
Just use the plugin - it allows to export from Max as a dotxsi file
Imports into xsi perfectly

Hiya.
The only problem I've found with the Max2XSI plugin is that if you use BodyPaint 3D (7.?) in Max to do your texturing, XSI crashes or doesn't import. That's been my experience. Other than that, it seems to work pretty well.

stef,
That plugin appears to be only for exporting from Max and importing into XSI, not vice versa.
I'm also interested in converting from XSI to Max. It'd be nice to avoid converting each object into .3ds and exporting. We have a lot of scenes (with lots of objects).
Is there a tool or plugin for converting an entire XSI scene into a Max file? Polytrans? Movetools?
I would very much like to find out if this can be done without exporting each XSI object separately.
Thanks,
Joe

your right.,...I believe polytrans is actually your best bet for now ..I would strongly suggest to give them a call, I had an issue a while back with XSI and maya and the customer service guy was really helpfull...

thanks, Stef
I also found that Right Hemisphere's Deep Exploration 2.0 seems to support these cross-platform conversions pretty well, but have to test more.
thanks,
