hello guys,

i have been given a brief to create a section of coastal road in italy for a next-gen game. the problem i have encountered is how do get that nice distant shot of the sea? i want to have it glistening slightly when it interacts with the sun.

i thought of maybe having an animated normal map on a plane but i would have no idea on how to achieve this. would this be the correct route to go down if so how could i obtain this effect?

One way you could cheat this is to create a tilable normal map for the waves and just animate the placement. That way it will look simular to rolling waves with only 1 Map. It may not be the best way but it should hold up at medium and long distance shots.

Have you tried the Lume tools ocean shader? One nice thing is that it is loopable.
