Title: Corpse Hunting
Name: Christian Guldager
Country: Denmark
Software: Painter, Photoshop
This is a book cover I did for a danish horror/zombie book. I was a big fan of this author when I was younger so I was naturally thrilled when the publishers contacted me about doing a cover for his latest book.
I had two weeks to do it. It had to be a specific scene from the book, but they adviced me not to paint the main characters faces. This was obviously a challenge, and a lot of my preliminary sketches featured the main characters battling zombies. But in the end I came up with a composition and an angle that would hide the character's face and head, and the publishers liked that. They also told me that it should be as disgusting as possible with lots of blood, brains and intestines.
The cover shows the main character Lorens bashing in the head of a zombie with a sledgehammer. Lorens is a retired sailor turned hermit. He's in his sixties but still a strong and large man. I came up with the anchor tatoo to hint at his sailor background.
Everything was painted in Painter IX and Photoshop 7.
