View Full Version : Bridge tool doesnt work in 9.5.2
pixelkarma 03-07-2006, 11:39 AM Am I the only one with this weird issue: I have been using the Bridge Tool almost daily to create polys from points. This worked as it should up to R 9.5. But now, when I have uppgraded to R 9.5.2 it doesnt work. It works for creating more polygons on exsisting objects, but I cant build polygons from points only. I have reinstalled from R 9.0 > 9.1 > 9.5 > 9.5.2 four times and the same issue occurs every time :banghead: . I deleted all old mca-files and the plist-files. I use G5 Dual 2 Ghz, OSX 10.4.5. Any hints?

....same problem here.
1. create poly object
2. add x points to poly object
3. try bridge tool to connect points and create polys
....doesn't appear to work - doesn't even highlight the points
....create poly tool does work. You are right, it used to work.
I submitted a ticket and scene file to Maxon support (attached zip file of scene)

Thanks for your reply. It´s almost like a relief that I´m not the only one with this issue…
I have adressed this to the Maxon support. Did you get any answer from Maxon?

not yet...just submitted it as I responded to you. I just figured it was something I was doing wrong until I saw your post. I will post any response I get from Maxon.

seems that bridge tool not works with objects with no polys
create box, make it editable and you can't use BT
but if you leave at least one poly - all good

The Maxon support is impressive. I sent my quest about an hour ago, a few sec ago I recived the reply:
"this is a known bug and will be solved with the next update.
Until then I recommend to use the "Add Polygon" tool which
allows the creation of points and polygons simultaneously. This
way, your two-step process can be done in one.

hmmm think I may have come across the same thing, turning coffee/expression off seemed to let me bridge as per normal though

Hmmm. Not working for me either, even with the expressions disabled.
Bridge Over River Why

I believe the issue with that bug is that you can't bridge the first poly if non yet exists.

Verified.

Wasn't that standard behaviour in the 7 days? I'm still used to using CreatePolygon for points in polygon object. Never crossed my mind to use bridge there as imo, it doesn't sound logical to bridge when there's nothing to bridge but points.

Standard behaviour? For me its very logical to use a tool and method that i feel comfortable with and have used for years in production. Efficiency matters, not what others use.

Maybe I'm wrong then. But I remember that Arndt in his book on Cinema 7 used the CreatePolygon method there, not Bridging. And I always considered this ok.
Of course you can use your methods. It wasn't my intention to try to convert you to mine.

FWIW when I was at a training day at Maxon a few months ago they mentioned this bug... and the posts above agree with what they thought - that you cannot bridge the first poly if none yet exists... but not knowing any better I assumed it was common knowledge, until now.

hahaha i know, i spent hours... was ready to explode, luckily tiredness took over and i went to sleep
on a similar note, has anyone else noticed that "add points" seems to malfunction a bit, idk if it's just me but I can't add points after I have started bridging a group together. It tries to create a point CONNECTED to the polygonal structure. So I can't create a point where it should be, if I forgot to add it originally, i have to go back to the start.
