View Full Version : Tweak_tool - frame selection
themick_g 03-07-2006, 10:21 AM Hi all,
I really like the new tweak tool in XSI 5, but there is only one thing, that I think is annoying.
Everytime I select a component (face, edge, poly) I toggle around my selection,so far so good. But is it also possible to toggle aroung a HIGHLIGHTED and tweaked (eg moved) component ? Because I always move points with the tool , without really selecting them, and I would like softimage to toggle around this highlighted and moved points! (because I kind of selected them, didnt I?)
This would be great. I only could toogle aroung a component when I really select it.Is there a script available?
thx a lot!

just single click on the vertex\edge \face you want to frame while tweak tool is active and hit f , you can then keep on tweaking.

Thanks for your answer!!!
Hmm, thats exactly what I think stops the workflow...clicking on the component. I would
softimage to frame my highlighted edge/point/face by pressing F, after I moved, scaled, rotated it,WITHOUT clicking on it again!? so you can move, move, rotate, hit f ,move, move hit f , etc....
possible?
thx

I'm not sure what you are asking would be possible. As you move the mouse to rotate things, the mouse would move over other points, so how would XSI know which one you really want to rotate around. You already would have to move the mouse over the point/edge you want to rotate around, would clicking once really be that much more difficult?

Yea I dont see how it stops the workflow either to be honest.

Hmm, no its not that difficult but I think it should not be naessesary ...
to make things more clear ,what I m talking about...
Ok, you are modling you character, and lets say you want to move the points in the ear-section. You select one point , hit f and to frame the region you want to work in.
Ok, now you hit m to activate the tweak tool. Then you are able to move points only by draging over them (they become highlighted) and press the left mousebutton to move them, without releasing the LMB. After moving, you release the LMB and move on to the next point and move it the same way.Lets say you end up with a point in the upper left corner of your monitor. Now you want to toggle your view around this last already moved point. Why do I have to select it?Because it already was highlighted AND moved , so I think
it would be great if XSI recognizes that THIS was a kind of selection, and toogle around this last moved point(my last selection somehow), without an extra clicking on that point AGAIN. :) I think it should be like this : highlighted components = still in selecting mode
highlighted and moved, scaled, rotated by pressing LMB (when highlighted )and RELEASING IT AFTER action = selection (with 'Toggle around selection' and 'Frame selection' possible)
Now its only a selection when you click on the component and release you LMB WITHOUT moving, etc.

Yes. I want this too. Its been in Wings3d for ages now, and its a really great feature. In Wings3d highlight is treated as temporary selection and most if not all commands work on it (camera controls, bevels etc.)

You need to change your workflow there. You will rarely ever have to frame a single point. If you're working on the ear, simply tag the approximate vertices that make up the ear and hit F.
Now your camera will always pivot around the ear. You can pan, dolly in and out and get to every point very easily without ever having to reframe.

Hey,thx
Sometimes the answer could be so easy :) I ll try it this way!!!
But what do you think about a tweak tool option like:
highlight - move,rotate,skale - release LMB = selection
