View Full Version : CS2 colour management for disp maps
fluence 03-07-2006, 11:15 AM I am currently using zbrush to create a displacement map to be rendered in mental ray for maya, however the map map makes the model look very bloated fat. I have been told this is due to photoshop colour management shifting grey values when the original file created by zbrush is opened. Could anyone tell me how i can avoid this happening?

Edit>Color Settings> Turn color management off
There shoulld be a thread on the pixologic forums with a nice quicktime video by Scott Spencer explaining all the steps of importing displacement maps in maya

I use CS but don't you have such options in CS2 ?

If that doesnt resolve your issue, I'd check the Alpha Gain and Alpha Offset values in your 3d application....I came across the same problem as you even after turning off the color managment inside of PS. If you scale your model up, you should get better results....your alpha offset value should be -.5 of what your alpha gain value is. So if you have an alpha gain value of 2, the alpha offset should be -1. Also, in theory...if you scale your model "up" then it's pretty safe to start in the whole number value range. But if you dont scale your model...start out in decimal range. The video that design is refering to is cool if you're rendering in mental ray....but you can get just as good results using your software renderer. Good luck ;)

Just to add to mlkdesign's post, in CS2 Mac you need to click on the 'more options' button to access the 'colour management off' option.
