View Full Version : Clothing question
skyentertainment 03-07-2006, 05:59 AM Ok I just started diving into the realm of modeling a character in 3D Studio Max 8. Even though I'm far from putting clothing on my model I was wondering what is the best way to apply clothing? Should I use cloth feature in 3DS Max or should I just model the clothing like I would if I was modeling a character?

I'm a lightwave user, but the modeling concept is probably similar.
I would say that it depends on the type of clothing.
If it's clothing that clings snug with the body, I would just select polys of the body that the clothes would fit, copy and paste and just size it, or bevel it. Of course you would have to modifying it a little, by adding necessary or deleting unnecessary polygons, and moving points.
And for anything that drapes loose, I would just extrude polys from where the draping starts.
But I would not to start from scratch because it would be hard to make it fit right, aligning all of the polys. It would be far too tedious and timewasting to be worth it, unless it something very extravagant.
I'm a beginner also, so anybody, correct me if I'm wrong, or confirm if I'm in the ballpark.
