View Full Version : lighting question
funkyfoe 12-24-2001, 10:27 AM hello I was just wondering how you get the (specular)highlights to glow in lw7 ? I`ve seen this in lots of pictures but never understood how you do it. also wondering how you get a bright white highlight on the side of an object (probably a little vague here.

it's called bloom and is mostly done in post
I think worley made a plugin that does just that and the brdf shader probably does that too, never tried it myself, I always do it in photoshop/aftereffects.
copy layer, adjust curves to show only highlights, change mode to overlay, adjust opacity to taste
obviously you can tweak till you drop on this effect

after (exagerated a little)

Bloom comes with Gaffer (made by Worley). It is much nicer than Lightwave's own Bloom (Effects>Add Image Filter>Bloom). Also, Corona is similar to Lightwave's Bloom (found under Add Image Filter).
