igor popovic 12-16-2002, 12:22 AM Just a tiny complaint, my max 5 crashes randomly(kinda) only when i try and change viewports, going from single(perspective, left, right etc.) to the quad view...this happens at different times, but with same action like i just explained...the crash is quick and swift, no hard processing of computer, nothing, just a dissapearing act....any ideas?? help????
EDit: I am using amd 900mhz, 256 ddr ram, video car: 64mb ddr Nvidia geForce 2mx:thumbsdow

Try changing viewport drivers and videocard drivers. By the way mention what they are and what card you are using. Normally you want to use OGL so if it crashes try several different card drivers.

You might also try using direct3d, I find it to be more stable with max.

from what i've read on the discreet forums, this sort of crash is almost always a video-driver-related thing, like try using heidi (software) drivers for a while, and see if you still get crashes. if not, then its a video card issue and probably u just need to update drivers or something like that, if it still crashes then its probably some other wierd conflict and i'm clueless
but give the heidi drivers a go for a while, which will be slower, but should at least eliminate/determine one cause :)

...And in case you need to know how to change those settings try this:
From the command line type:
C:\3dsmax5\3dsmax.exe -h
(I'm not sure if that's the correct path to your max5, but you get the idea)
Then try a different setting.

Thanks guys for all the great suggestions.
I tried changing the graphic mode for max. but, my directX didn't work because some porblem, the software mode was a bit too slow, so i changed back to original OGL, i'll update my driver and all.
thanks anyways!
Hi!
I have the same troubles on our two Dell530 at work. 3dsmax5 crashes randomly sometimes when roatating in the vewport or dragging a spinner. Using wildcat3 6110 i would not expect it to be them, but everything points in that direction. But nobody at support on 3dlabs or discreet has any soloution to our problem. :(
