Use a dome light script of some kind. Don't think there's any other way to get it working now.

i believe that if you convert the shag hair/fur to geometry then it will render fine with skylight/gi as well....although this is generally VERY slow to render because of the high geometric detail. so this will get it working, but for faster renders you'd probably be better of as drewbie said, with a skydome script, or by making a dome by hand

ok, but when i use skylight and light tracer i can check a box called skylights if i use a skydome script, i wont be able to have the same thing...how can i use light tracer as the same way as skylight with a skydome script?

i think the assumption was that by using a skydome script you don't use the light tracer, just the scanline renderer. or u use the lighttracer with the skylight turned off, as the skydmoe is there to simulate the skylight, with without gi.

forget using shag hair and GI
i had many shag hair issues [thers a thread here abou tit] and down the line i came to a digimation doc that outlined the MAJOR bugs of shag hair. right there, at the top of the list and constituting 3 or dso items more on the list: shag hair dont play well with ray tracing.
i know its not GI [skylight]. but after 40+ hours on this, my advice is fuggedaboudit
shag hair blows. i used to think it was the sh*t. but not working with ray-tracing?? cmon man, thats like making a screwdriver with a lock pattern that doesnt match any screws
