Okay, I am determined to start on something for this challenge soon, and finish it! I've had problems with completing challenges in the past, due to poor planning on my part, and this time I know I can do it if I really apply myself. Now I just have to think of something and start sketching!

Since I started this challenge I've been playing with this idea of a group of aliens setting out into space. I'm not sure why they would be setting out just yet, but I guess it will eventually come to me.

I think I've come to a descision about the alien characters. I've decided they're not going to be invaders, really. Sort of like explorers instead... maybe committing acts of piracy when the need arises, and never really staying in the same place for too long.

Like norvman said, they are very much like insects, and I'm actually trying to work that into the story. I'll come up with something more defined.. as well as more designs... they need more of a crew and an actual ship. Otherwise, how would they go sailing?

This alien is a little different, but I kind of like the idea of them each being unique, rather than uniform. This one is male, and has much smaller wings/fins... I suppose it would be better to call them wings. ^_^

an odd thought just occured to me

lets say they are infact Insect based intelligence...

and lets say they have a Matricahal (Women rule...) socioty...

Then the perhaps...

(okay all you females pick up a big rock cause I'm fixing to say something chavinistic... :D)

they could be going into space to find better shoping... ha!

Like my little niece just the other day when we were watching some ants crawling all over the ground I said to her... " I wonder what it is they are working so hard to find..." and she said... "simple they are shopping..."

so maybe there is a connection there...
I don't know ha!...
certainly would be fun to do an illustration to explore the idea...

This is a page of concept doodles that I did while I had some time to myself between college classes. I hope to get a lineart done soon. Sorry for the blurryness in the middle, I had to peice it together because the paper was too big to scan all at once... it didn't work out well.

What do you think of the departure pic that I have in mind, with them all waving at the others? I like it, but I just wanted some opinions.

I decided to sketch out a more decent version of the concept that I had in mind. Critiques are very, very welcome! I would love to hear thoughts about composition and the idea itself. :D

I really had fun drawing the other crew members, such as the cow and the human in the background. I think I'll leave them in if I go with this. I think it makes it more interesting. It seems as if the aliens picked up a few new crew members during their previous explorations.

Here's a coloring I did while I was away from my computer for what the aliens' skin tone and eye color would be. I really like how it turned out. :D

I decided that I'm going to use this as my lineart. I really like the way that it turned out. Any suggestions for it would still be helpful though, since I'm not planning to ink it. I'm just going to color what I have here, then get rid of the outlines in the final image.

i like this illustration. the setting is in another planet right? are they riding on a ship bound for the ocean or its a flying ship? i think this will look good when coloured. also, probably you should add some crowds on the foreground waving their hands too to interact with the people on the ship.

Okay, it's been a while. I decided that I should upload what I have colored so far, even though it's not much. I really hope that I can finish this by the deadline, but I'm not so sure. School is done now, so I have much more free time... It will be interesting to see if I can finish this by the deadline. :D

To thepineman: Yes, they are supposed to be on an alien planet and the ship is indeed a flying one. It's supposed to be a literal space ship. ^_^ Thank you for the suggestion about the crowds. I was actually thinking about doing that myself. :D

Here's what I have so far... I'm going to be working on it as much as I can over then next few days. I'm really hoping to be able to meet the deadline. If not, I'll just finish it for myself.
