View Full Version : Small problem with Maya, but incredibly annoying, can anyone help?
yobarman 12-15-2002, 06:32 PM I've been doing a lot of lessons in Maya for my 3d animation class, and whenever I have to type something in Maya such as a file name, or renaming a joint or whatever, the keys that i push on my keyboard do not correspond with what shows up on the screen.
if i push the E button, it shows up a period... if i push the "." button it comes up with a V... this is really annoying because i have to type stuff out in notepad and paste it into Maya...
would anyone know how to reset the keyboard settings or be able to tell me why this is happened?

That's really messed up. Is this on your home machine or a machine at your school. Check the keyboard settings on the computer. Make sure it's setup right in the control panel section of windows. I've never heard this problem before. I guess check to make sure that your keyboard is setup correctly from the control panel. If that does nothign then...try trashing your user prefs, then re-starting maya??? I dunno though...sounds cooky. :surprised

yobarman,
which version of maya? I've experienced something similar, sometimes when Maya been running for a few hours this seems to happen every now and then, for me it's that the underscore doens't show up at usual, I restart maya and it works fine again, using 4.5, have no clue to what might cause it though,

i'm using 4.0.... restarting it sometimes helps, but if that fails then i usually have to restart the comp

Maybe it's a virus or something?
That's really weird.
I wouldn't have thought Maya would have any special control over the keyboard, it would just use it via windows like everything else.

If itīs oly Maya, thatīs running mad:
capslock is a serious trap ... strange hotkeys may init this behaviour ... delete the user prefs - Maya will rebuild them automaticaly with default settings.
Good luck!

go into this folder
my documents/maya/4.0/prefs/
there should be a file called userPrefs
just cut that out and put it on your desktop (to save it just in case) Then start up maya and it should make you a new file called userPrefs. Then you can delete the old one on your desktop if the problem gets solved.
(you can actually just delete the file instead of putting it on your desktop if you want...but I sometimes save it just in case....up to you.)
