JeePee 12-15-2002, 06:20 PM i see in a video that u can keep selective corners sharp when using polygones and NURMS Subdivision but it was done with a hotkey i think so i can't see how it is done

I am guessing you mean smoothing groups?

i have no idea how it's called
i took some screens from the video i am talking about as an example
It's the crease option in edge sub object mode in your editable poly.

another solution is to select the edge u want and chamfer it a bit. the less it is chamfered the sharper the edge will be.

Smoothing groups is the best way to do it. Check the "separate by: smoothing groups" button in the meshsmooth modifier. Of course, your model need to have correct smoothing groups for it to work.

I totally disagree... use the crease tool instead... that way you can still use smoothing groups for the rest of your mesh!

Wow, i didn't know about the crease tool until now.
*looks embarrassed.*
i like chamfering a lot better than smoothing groups and crease because nothing is really ever completely creased, it has a very little ammount of roundness

qu2k: you want to avoide making the mesh complex for a simple crease. What you should do instead is apply a second mesh smooth, set it to classic, and use the strength option to create a nice small bevel on the edge. This method will keep the base mesh cleaner.
