Hello everyone. I'm currently learning facial setups and would like to know which dvd should I buy, the Hyper-Realistic Facial Setup by Alias ( http://store.alias.com/dr/v2/ec_MAIN.Entry10?V1=649358&PN=1&SP=10023&xid=41107&CID=154297&CUR=840&DSP=&PGRP=0&ABCODE=&CACHE_ID=154297 ) or Gnomon's Deformer DVDs ( http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/dvds/def01.html
http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/dvds/def02.html
http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/dvds/def03.html ). I see many people praising the Hyper-Realistic Facial Setup, but then I read this review by CG Channel ( http://www.cgchannel.com/news/viewfeature.jsp?newsid=4926&pageid=1 ) and it seems like this dvd is for intermediate users. The Gnomon covers a lot of information and are good at explaining how they achieved it. So, for anyone who has these dvds, can anyone tell me which one is better for a beginner starting facial setup?

I havent seen hyper realistic facial setup. However, I dont believe that the deformers 1, 2, 3 will give you the information your looking for in regards to facial setup. However, they are a reasonable introduction to the deformer nodes in maya ( altho it is fairly outdated, so it does not include soft selection and possibly more ). The best resources ive found for facial animation/and rigging is the book.. stop staring by Jason Osipa and the book/dvd package 'the art of rigging' by cgtoolkit.com which isnt about facial rigging specifically, however it does a masterful job at teaching rigging concepts as a whole, and does have a full chapter specifically on the facial setup ( a hybrid bones driven blendshapes setup )

As i said i have not seen the hyper realistic dvd, but if ur looking for an alternative perhaps my suggestion has helped somewhat

Yeah, the hyper-realistic one seems very disappointing if we believe cgchannel...
