That's one beautiful sketch. The expressions are fantastic! Only comment I'd mike is about the guy in the very front: His arm is getting lost in the fellow behind him, the one saying 'hi' to the human couple. Maybe if his arm was longer, or shorter, or if he were moved over to the left altogether... Anyhow, just ideas. You don't look like yopu need much help... :)
Have fun!

You might as well leave it as it is, because it´s already
fantastic!!

If this has a decent vivid watercolor on it, i´ll be blown away.

Walrus is absolutly right about the little fellow in front. You shouldn´t disturb the shape of the one the farmer is looking at. Their connection will be the most important spot in the picture and should be accentuated.

This will be an awesome image, I'm waiting for some colours. The base drawing is perfect, all you need now is a matching colour scheme.
I love your characters, specially the fat guy in the foreground. By the way, how much time do you spend in one of these sketches?, it looks as if you have spended a lot of hours in it, but maybe you're one of those incredibly fast artists capable of making it in ten minutes?

Hey, I'm just like you, other people ...
At least when it comes to liking this picture, that is ;)

But one thing bothers me a bit. I can't seem to find the "Big Journey" someone is on about. So if you could explain that to me, i'd be even more impressed by this piece.

Alouette
03-16-2006, 07:07 AM
i think that the theme don't necessary have to be a big event or a big journey like the start of Ulysse travel.

here it's more about some fantastic or unsual event in a casual day of a peasant.

I love a lot irish or britanian legend.
in those stories, meeting korils , dwarfs or others fantasy créatures is a sign of an odd days.
the beginning of a strange stories, an encounter which could be malefic or salutary.
where are here in this point.
(excuze for my ashamed english )
i don't know if i answer your question

Lovely work so far, very dynamic. I love the sense of movement and the facial expressions of all the characters. My only criticism is in the color choices. I don't have any problem with the color palette or any of the specific colors, but the way they are used, I feel like the characters don't stand out as much as they should. Maybe this is partly because the image is still unfinished, but it's just something to think about. Sorry I can't be of more help than that, I know my comment is a bit vague.

Yay, good to see you're still working on this, Alouette! It's looking nice - I really like the color changes that you added into the sky. The values are a bit strong, especially the contrast between the sky and the character dancing on the top of the wagon - it calls a lot of attention to that part of the picture even though it's not a main focal point. But I know you're still doing a lot of refining, and I'm looking forward to seeing yuor wonderful updates. :)

Hi Alouette. Love your rendering. I think you need to extend the extension you made. The path being shown is too close to the edge of the canvas. If you're gonna make it an important part to tell the story, I think it'll be better to keep it off the edge a bit. It leads the viewer out of the picture. Keep it up! :)

I like your progress on this picture. for your foreground color I think you can do a mix between your 2 last versions.
I like the way you add on the left to give more depth to the journey.
To crit a little, I would say that the 2 dwark at left and top, that I suppose you have not completely refine, are too small in term of realtion size (compared as the others).
I'm also not fond of the animal on the right. it's well done but I don't find that it really match the rest of the picture.

Great work. i hope something for this picture.

Such wonderful details Cyril! Very impressive. Really like the little guy dancing up at the top. Love it! One of my favorites -- looking forward to coming back soon and seeing more updates. (You make me want to pick up a Wacom and go 2D!)

Looking good, Alouette! The background to the left has come along nicely. (And the characters have been looking good from the start.) What are you going to do with the foreground? I've not commented on it as I've assumed it's in progress, but now that you've posted 'Final coloring,' I just wanted to check in: It feels far too dark and "graphic" to fit in with the rest of the piece. I hope you will consider adding some light, color variation, hilights, etcetera, to those lants in the far foreground, as it jmight really make them tie into the rest of the piece more. (And if you were already planning that.. Great, I always suspected you were! :) ) Good luck with the last bits...

wow - great picture Cyril

I love the characters and great expressions - so much detail

The only thing, I feel, is that the dark foreground is a bit too dark and plants would still be visible, but in deep shadow - but hey such a great image, I wouldn't worry too much (or at all) about that

Great work :) :)

Wow, I'm speechless. Great work. Only comment is on the backgroung. Looks like you've got a bit of atmospheric perspective on the trees but you didn't carry it through to the castle in the distance. It still works though. Nice job!

Great work. The foreground leaves might be a bit too dark though (I understand it's too seperate it from the background more, but I think you pushed it a bit too much IMO). Great work regardless, you nailed this piece.

one of my favorites sinse the beginning. really interesting presentation you went with in the end. the black cuttout foreground and forced perspective background give it a very nice storybook / stage feel. love your wee characters.

hope they give ya a little something,
~B

Have loved seeing the development of this piece. It's so full of character and fun. Really admire the pencil, and painterly quality of the stages. Great to see such fine drawing, expertly coloured.

Congrats for finishing, Cyril. I really like your image... but then, you knew that already. I'd haveloved it even if it were just the pencil lines alone! Great work, and I look forward to seeing future pieces of yours as well...

Alouette, marvelous job, the expressions of the characters particularly! Just love it!

I just got back from a trip to Paris, what a beautiful city. Where do you live?

Anyway, good luck on the judging, this one is just great!
