I wanted to do something from Lord of the Rings, and everyone was doing the Orcs, so i chose something different. And i thought that i would not be able to do any justice to any characters as of yet, so decided to go with something that i could do.

Below is my wip so far of sting, the spider slayer. I have done most of the geomentry and now am starting on the textures. I am using max 4.3 to model and FR render. I am useing the sword that was used in the movie as a reference, and hope to get it as close to possible.

The text on the guard and blade will be done with bump maps, as i am not sure how i would model it into the actual geometry of the sword. I am looking for some constructive feed back and some texturing help. I am not sure how to make a good steel with max, or FR. So if anyone has any ideas as to how to pull this one off i am all ears.

Thanks for the C&C

Well, I have worked on the materials more, so that i now have the bump maps in plsce for the writing on the guard and the "silver" leaves that are imbedded into the wooden handel.

I have also started the model of the scabard, but am not sure if i like it. But i will continue on with it untill i have the straps and textures finished before i decided wether or not to scrap it.

I am still trying to find out how to get a nice steel material using max and FR, but i am having no luck. If anyone out there has some comments and Crits about the image so far i am listening.

Thanks for C&C

make the scabbard a little more round, model more details, keep at it!

Nice work, but the blade looks longer than the scabbard...
