Hey everyone,

Just moved to the L.A./Hollywood area and I'm trying to get a job in the movie/gaming industry as a character animator. Please feel free to take a look at my reel and tell me what you think. Thanks for all your help.

Here is a link to my demo reel page where you can view my reel:

G'day Patrick, you have a couple of nice things in there :)
I'd like to suggest a few things to you though:
You really need to watch your weighting; if you are applying for positions in game animation then you need to make sure the loops look good in all angles and weight/balance is very important.
watch the sliding feet; you may have intentionally done this for your robot dance but as soon as the feet start sliding all focus is drawn to them.

these are just a few suggestions, you can choose to ignore them if you wish ;)

best of luck!

You seem to put alot of emphasis on hitting strong key poses, which is certainly something that you should do, but you also need to give the motion between those poses a little more attention, cause that's where the real animation is.

I like to think of key poses as the defining frames from a reel of movie film. They may be important but they're no more a part of the overall motion than any of the frames that came before or after.

Also remember that unless you're doing stylised animation, or something mechanical, no part of a character is ever perfectly still. You should always keep some movement going on in pretty much all points of the body, even if they're just tiny subtle movements.

Hey thanks for the feedback! I will take all these into consideration while tweaking my reel.

Pixel: I was thinking about doing some turntables for my character with the AK as he walks/runs. I think this will help show it off from all angles.

Headless: I will go back in and clean up some of those inbetweens. Was there any that just stood out in your mind? I'm also going to go back in and add those subtle movements (shifting weight, breathing, etc.)

Thanks for the advice. Anyone else? I need all the help I can get. :)
