The story is about two brothers traveling with their servant robot in a future city that has been destroyed. Their supplies are in a red wagon and the younger brother, age 3, sits on top of the wagon throwing out cans of food while the servant robot picks it up. The older brother looks out trying to figure out the what the city in the the sphere is about in the distant. This my rough draft, i'm still trying to fgure it all out.

I think this concept has potential. I am not so sure about the little brother - robot act. Both characters are fine but their interaction seems to be a bit out of place. Good luck with your entry!

yeah I think I need to kill the robot thing. It was late at night and I think I went overboard drawing. :banghead:

I dunno, I kind of like the robot thing but I'm a sucker for robots. Cool sketch. I like the idea. I'll be watching.

Concept looks good!
Maybe you could have the robot pulling the wagon instead!

well I think i'm going to keep the robot for now. I can't wait til I get a new scanner in a few days. so I can post some clearer ideas, what a time for my scanner to stop working. I am still trying to learn the tablet.

I took the robot out of this one, but the next one I post will be hand drawn with a lot more detail. I'm going to put the robot back in too. Meanwhile I should have some models up and and a better idea of how it is going all going to lay out soon.

This is my final concept:
A homeless little boy and a robot make a long journey in search a place to live on a distant planet. The robot has packed up a huge amount of supplies onto a little wagon that he is connected to.
The robot looks off into the distant at the high-tech city in rubbles and to the passage in the mountains he must cross. The little boy sits on top of the over packed supplies holding a broken umbrella. Waving in the air.
--- I couldn’t let go of the robot and the more I look at the previous short sketches the idea started to bloom. I knew I wanted it to be a funny journey so I pushed the concept and decided to go more on the carton side and not so serious. Thank you guys for the comments. they helped. Time to start modeling some things!

I started to block out the compostion, it is all low polygon- I should have the characters blocked out in a day, then I will start modeling lots of detail. So far I am happy with the earthly color scheme. I had to change a few things to fit it into a portrait layout, but I got it all to workout. This is my pre- modeling stage.

Imodeled this part this morning.
It's been a busy last two weeks for me. I'm modeling the robot in nurbs and sub-dees. Then I'll jumb back to the boy. I' ve been learning Z- brush and I can't wait to texture this scene with it. For now, I'm just going to use maya until it arrives in the mail.

Just a quick update, I just finished a final pass of detail. more pictures to come soon.
This is it for modeling the robot, I have just moved some parts around to make a pose. I still need to rig the model and the joint springs so it isn't so stiff.

I know this is not a rigging challenge, but I spent some time rigging it well. I hate to have models I can't play with. It's a fun model to animate. Here is the last update on the robot until I start to texture it.

I think I'm going to add another kid to my picture for a total of 2 kids and a robot. Anyways, I'm now going to start working on the boy's face. Both of the kids will be be modeled off my own sons, so this should be interesting. This is just the start of one of the faces. I'm going to try to add a ton of detail in maya before I go overboard in Z-brush.

I've started to shape out the the face for the older boy, This is still very rough, I'm trying to use a low ploy count and push it as far as it will go before I start adding more edge loops.

I have now started to refine and shape the mesh of the boy's face. I'm trying to match my son's own face features. I am happy with the placement of the edge loops for this model. The only major change was the adjustment of the where the ear was going to be. Hopefully I will have the time to animate something with him after the contest is over. I'm only going to rig this character enough to pose it for now.

I have added more detail to the nose and made adjustments all over the face so it mathes my reference picture more. Next I will model an ear , finish the eyes, and model some teeth and a tongue. I may model the hair too.

Here's another update of the boy's head with a few window pictures a quick G.I. render. I' have added a lot more detail to the face and I been changing the shape a lot the last two days. I decided to go with more a lot more detailed approached to the whole face and concept. Because of this there is only going to be one boy in the picture or I will never have time to model the whole city in the backround. One more pass on the head in Maya should do it, then the rest of the face detail will be textured. Thankyou guys for all the comments.

I think that boy still needs some work. Ear seems too round,u could give him more like human look.
Here is some tips :

Thank you comments. Yeah, this still needs some work. I just kinda threw the ear on, but Im glad you pointed out the proportions, It will help me model the next pass of detail. In the begining I wanted the piece to feel cartoony, But, now I want to push it since it is a still life and not an animation. Feel free to mark up my work again, it helped.

I have made more overall adjustments to the face. The nose was too big for a child's head and I worked on the ear too. Here are some screen shots and a quick G.I render. At this point, one more pass of detail and adjustments should do it for this head.

This is the final version of the head before I make a blend shape for it in the final shot. I am happy with the amount of detail in the head, it should work for the shot. I always smooth my models last so I dont't lose any important detail, so this model has a nice round and child like face to it and appeal. Now I think I need to attach it back to the body, and finish the rest of the model.

Here is today's screenshot. I have modeled the hands and legs/feet in this update, and I made some litte changes to the face. Now I'm going to start the clothes and just try to get the whole model roughed out so I can pose it and take into Z-brush to finish it.

Here is a final screenshot of the boy. The clothes are modeled and the boy's mesh is done. I had a high tech jacket on him but it was overkill, so I put a simple tee-shirt on him instead. I'm going to spend the rest of the week modeling everything in the foreground including the props so I can figure out the boy's pose and continue to model more detail including the expression on the boy's face.
