The idea im having is a small magical land with a little elf and his wife going away from their home.

Im thinking instead of them having a horse to carry stuff they use these insects.
Its a mixture of a spider and an ant.

Thinking of different plants to have in the scene, im thinking of spiky mushrooms and small fruit trees.

Heres a quick sketch of the female elf for the scene. I will almost certainly make a few changes as the concepts progress.

This is the general idea i was thinking of, 3 dirt mounds built to form a house.

These are 2 ideas for the scene. The scene will be at night or dusk. With the two elves holding hands looking down at the scene.
Which do you guys think will look best?

Well, those near squared ratio isn't the wisest choice most time.
Same goes with the horizon, don't put it in center of the image.
Squares and center-lines always looks stiff. You could use it for special purposes where you need this, but try to avoid it, if you're unsure about it.
interesting... keep up with it. :)

Duracel - Thanks for the advice! Any crits really help me to get better.
I will do what you say and come up with a more dynamic scene.
Slav - Thanks, yours is gonna be really good ;) Like your M&S one.

i've found with a lot of these submissions that a lower camera angle has more or a feeling of beginning and possibility. the spider mount is a great idea.
i'd look at some reference of bugs to get a good design on him. and it wouldn't hurt to check out some landscape reference as well.
i think keeping the characters faces to camera is usually best. you should be able to get a nice fantasy backdrop and maybe the villiage that they are leaving in the distance behind them.
have fun,
~B
so where's the updates?! :P better get cracking!
