cheers everybody.
with these first sketches I want to go for a twofold approach. Firstly I want to examine the idea of a journey that emerges out a situation of despair and mourning. a mourney more of an emotional than a physical matter. secondly the symbolic, transcendental journey for somebody who died, represented in the waterfuneral..
I want to have an impact on sky horizon and fog/mist as the 'landscape' of the journey as well as on the different emotional responses on the dependants of the dead leader/souvereign.

Hey there Johannes,

I like your idea and I like the concept sketch. You've captured the setting and mood very nicely and with a minimal amount of shapes. My only suggestion would be to pull the view of the scene back a bit more, in other words show more of the surrounding area/water and have the characters smaller in your image. I say this because your idea relies quite alot on the atmosphere of the scene, the mood depicted by the colours of the atmosphere and the water, and it would also give the scene a bigger sense of space.
Look forward to seeing more.

Hi Lewiston. I like very much the spiritual mood in your concept sketch. The colour scheme is nice too. I´ll be looking forward for the development of your work. Good luck.

Agreed, the mood, light and color seems perfect to me.

I´m not sure about the composition though. Let alone i would rather flip it, i think the best way for achieving this mood of tranquility would be a central composition.

Maybe check out one of Böcklins "Toteninsel" ( he did several of them, because of the huge success back then) for further inspiration.

I already know i will like it in the end :)
