Dmitry 12-14-2002, 09:31 PM Hay guys does any one know where to get OBJ importer for 3ds max?
I need to import a model from maya, but the ones im using right now triangulate my model doubling the amount of poly which i dont want.
So if you know a way or know where to get obj thanks.

how did you made your export from maya to max????

well, i made a low poly model of car, I modeled it with smooth proxy so besically i already knew how it should look when i would apply mesh smooth in max.
I then exported the low poly model into obj format. In 3ds max 5, i imported the obj model and set up few options like which way normals go and the vertex properties. Well there isnt much.
All i needed was a quadreangular model not triangular. With every other importer such as VRML, or DXF even if you check the model to be quad it still triangulates ir. Obj brought it in in quads exectly the way I left it in maya. I then applied mesh smooth and got the same result that I had with smooth proxy. The only down side is that maya coordinate space is different from maxes so when i brought the model in, it was way small and i had to scale it up...thats all.
Hope that explains something.
