View Full Version : THe old shake for windows and the gnomon dvds
Canadianboy 03-03-2006, 01:26 AM Well i do have acess to the old shake for windows. To bad they stoped making it. Well i dont have access to it on a mac or anything so im wondering would it be worthwhile to get the gnmomn dvds for me to start learning it on windows? Is the stuff covered even doable in the old shake?

there isn't too much in the gnomon dvds that will prevent you from learning on shake 2.51. In fact I seem to remeber one of the dvd maybe its the compositing fundamentals the dude is actually using shake on a pc.
have flicked throught them all i think they are ok..... but if you are looking for a cheaper option the marco palolini book might be a better way to go !

Big things to avoid in 2.5.1, dont use rotoshape only quickshape and just add everything together. For tracking, only use the stabilize node(it can do everything tracker and matchmover can do without the bugs). Timex was pretty much fixed by 2.5.1, but I still try to do my retiming in the filein node which if I remember correctly was changed a lot in 2.5 and looks very similar to what it is now except the optical flow stuff they added to 4.0.
Aneks: any other nodes you can think of to avoid if the tutorial is using a newer version?

Oh yea, and the sample scripts that come with the gnomon disks can be opened in any text editor and just get rid of the line about audio and you can probably import it into 2.5 as long as there aren't any new nodes in there not in 2.5.

You can't buy used versions of shake or maya if it has already been licensed.

you beat me to it. Audio and the roto/quickshape refernces will be the ones that are most likely to cause problems. Also be aware that the film grain node, morpher and warper did not appear till version 3 on mac. Other than that probably just photoshop import is only thing missing and I try and avoid using that wherever possible anyway as I hate the multi-layer node.
