The Journey Begins Challenge (2D) Entry: Elena Fitts

Well I don't know if I'm going to make to the end of the challenge as the school take most of my time now.But I decidet to give it a try.
I had couple of ideas, not sure wich one is better. They are similar by idea, but different by concept.Both are yet rough scetches:

In the first one is group of faeries who are running away from there home because of the forest fire. The princes who in the front, is looking back us she nearly died saving the most precious belonging from the fire. This secret tresure is magical seed wich has the power to grow magical flowers/homes for faeries. This process is slow, but it nevertheless better than live under the open sky.So now they have no choice than to go on there journey to find the new place to rebuild their home.

The second is group of people that has to live their home because of the invasion. For ages peaple of that land were trying to live peaceful and work on their land. But there always been attacked from the nearby martial races and they always manage to repel the attack. But one day their defence could not hold any longer, so befor the battle was over they manage to seal all gateways to hold the enemy and flee using the back-way .After the tonel there goes the gorge wich lead to the gateway, and the open lands. There is the girl in the front a young princeswho just saw what long nad hard road is lies ahead of her so she remain behind from the others to have the last look of what is left of her home. behind her someone of the warriors tired from the battle has left his shield heavy burden wich is useful now.
I thought it would be a good idea to put the shield in the picture, so I could show the burning castle in it reflection.

The left one is a killer! ;) I'd go for that one. Good luck!

Both concepts has great potential. I like the faries as it's magical and colorful. The child looking back is more emotional and "real". Personally I would go for the one on the right.

just a suggestion. The shield looks misplaced. Perhaps the child princess has an honour guard, sworn to protect her at all times? That way you can add a guard holding the shield.
