View Full Version : Cinema popularity
TonyL 03-02-2006, 08:29 PM What's going on? When I logged on a couple of hours ago there were allegedly 459 people using the Cinema forum.
Has everyone rushed out and bought C4D and do they all need help? Or are the figures wrong? I don't remember seeing that sort of patronage before. Must be a glitch.

Does sound a little high, but c4d forum does often have quite a few people in it. even now it says 161 people are viewing, but not all of them are behind their computers. I often go home from work and forget to close my window, so my computer is pretty much in the c4d forum all the time. You get pretty fast responces on this forum too a lot of the time. :D

it's not about those who have their browser currently open (i don't believe that thebulletin board can see machines that aren't asking for updates). so those are real figures of who's been browsing in the last 5 minutes or so (when you browse a thread and it shows peoples names at the bottom they aren't necesarily still browsing that thread, they just happened to browse it in the last 5 minutes).
the truth of the matter is that cgtalk is a very large community, and many of it's denizens aren't even logged in, but the board counts them too (by ip). as it's a cumulative number over 5 or so minutes then it's quite reasonable for one small area to have that many people apparently browsing. c4d has always been a popular area here anyway, and also there's going to be a fair few people just poping their heads in, on their way through, not even c4d users. you could estimate the actual number of people in an area actively browsing at any time is a fraction of that sum of 5 minutes (just think how long you spend in a particular thread or area after all).

this is only a bad thing..if my software price goes up and i can't get on my beloved forum to ask why ;-/
i must admit thread turnover is pretty rapid though..so assume the are plenty posting and plenty reading...
and as for all the lurkers...stop lurking...and start taking part...nows you're chance people...attach to this thread with a "new user clamp post"...and participate in your learning..its far more interesting than being a sidelined watcher...let us know a little about yourselves...kinda AA intro...stylie...assuming you've all taken part in AA meetings ;-(

The great thing of this forum is that you get an enormous wealth of tips and methods no manual or book could ever give you.
The bad thing is that you have to visit at least daily just to keep up with all the new posts.

Hi, my name is DarkFlite and I'm a lurker.
I'm no pro, I don't have many answers for people here but just reading the posts is very useful to me. So far my problems have been easily answered by searching the posts.
So its not my fault - I'd post more if the archive wasn't so useful!
Am I considered a lurker if I only post when I need help after searching the forum? :\

Well I lurked for a while - thought this forum was too clever for me.
But I did a C4D course with the Eclectic Academy and the tutor said "it's a good place, very friendly" - so I stopped lurking and started pestering.
Um... is this a good thing? (innocent expression with evil glint)
'please insert Bouncy Bouncy smiley here!'
cos there isn't one in the list.

Your so friendly and helpful flingster :) It's people like you that make it a pleasure to be a part of this forum. You kept me posting when you were one of the few interested in my robot charactor a ways back. Always a voice of reason. Cheers to people like you! :D

pah! you can't go around being 'helpful and friendly'. What will the government say? It's this kind of lack of disregard thats tearing society apart. Before long we will have people sitting around campfires singing 'kumbiya my lord!' and all this friendliness will cause people to get good at cinema 4d. Leaving only miserable fools like myself left to struggle to model a cube in c4d... cheers cgtalk for all the help

Awww, it's so nice to be amongst people just as dumb as me... no wait, that can't be right, otherwise who'll come up with all the answers to my questions? No, let's leave things as they are, you are all so much cleverer than me...
(thinking of all that knowledge available for raiding)

All these people call themselves lurkers, This is my first post! True Blue Lurker I reckon, as for contributing, all I ever have is questions so I figure I should spend a couple of weeks going through the existing posts first...
anyway back to hiding in the shadows.
