Scale the verts to zero along the x and then move?
Or Align to View (in the approprite viewport) then move?

Scaling along an axis works, but it Max 5 it seems to take forever.
The Meshtools script alows you to align vertices along an axis - just record the axis position of the line, align the verts along the axis then transform type-in the position.

thanx
does the Meshtools sript work in max 5?
i'm thinking of installing some scripts but they all say 4.x
Or use 'view align' - which flattens the verts to an average based upon the current viewport (essentially, that viewports 'z' axis).

just fyi, the slow scaling at small scales (such as vertex scale) is a recognized bug by discreet and should be fixed in the next point release (at least according to the discreet user forums) so hopefully this will be fixed soon :)
