Lets say Ive got a 3d scene that ive seperated into renderpasses. Particles in one pass, hair & fur in one, and the rest in another. Ive rendered these three passes with alpha and zdepth. Now, Is there any smart way to combine these three zdepth images into one image to use with my DOF on my final composited image?
Im using 3d max and After effects and frischluft DOF.
Thanks in advance.

You can export for the Max using one format like the RPF file format that permit you store extra channels like z-depth. But in this case you can combine the beauty pass (diffuse, highlights, shadows for example) and use the Z-depth as map for effects like color correction and DOF

the first thing that comes to mind:

- render out the greyscale alpha images for your layers
- use the alpha image as your mattes for your depths map and layer them.
