Hey everyone,

Here's a shot I was playing with recently. I took some footage of a homeless man and I tracked his face in SynthEYES so I could match up some cg models with it. Originally I was going to completely remove and replace his face but I went another direction instead. I used the track points to animated a hellish skull to follow the same path as his face, but ended up just using parts of it to create the distortion near the end.

I keyed some warp nodes in Shake to distrort his eye area, nose, and mouth. I did some matte painting on his face to give it a more worn and evilish appearance. I also added some teeth to his smile, I thought about giving his teeth an broken and black appearance but I figured that it wouldn't show up well so I stayed with the classic white shiny teeth. Hey, even demonic humans brush twice a day!! Over all it was a fairly quick composite and I just wanted to post it here to share and get some feedback. just click on the pic and enjoy!

That man is old. Then I thought...that man is scary.

On a serious note though...Nice solid track. Being familiar with compositing I understand how the shot was done, but maybe if you included a quick breakdown so people will actually be able to see the shot construction. Nice work.

Great idea, I'll post a breakdown soon when I construct one. Right now I'm working on retiming some of the effects. They just seem to "pop" on, and I want it to have a more natural effect.

Did you ask him for permission to put his face up on the internet and mess around with it on a computer? I do not think it is legal without his permission?

Maybe you did ask him, and then I think its ok. But if you didnīt itīs a very distastefull thing to do.

I didn't film the original footage. I acquired it though other sources so I couldn't actually ask the person for permission. This clip was used to test different effects and techniques as a learning process so I could apply those to either my own or other projects. This wasn't created to make money from or advertise myself and any company. I wasn't trying to offend anyone, just trying to get feedback on the composite and improve upon my own skills that was all.

No worries. Seems like some people are trying to look more into the composite than you were actually expecting. Trying to assign some kind of meaning to it.

The effect you were going for as been achieved in movies as of late, it was interesting to see it done, even if on a small scale.

Just awaiting the breakdown, to see how you accomplished something that has been seen on the big screen.

That was some pretty sick stuff man....it reminded me alot of the movie "Exorcism of Emily Rose" where peoples' faces were morphing into "demon" faces as Emily passed by them on the sidewalk and what not. Anyway, I dont think it was distasteful at all....we all have to learn somehow, and practicing on our moms, dads and family dog kinda has its limitations and gets old pretty quickly...so keep up the good work :)
