a new wip. hopefully i can get this one finished at some point (LoL). this character is for a (really short) short & the body opens to reveal mechanics using set driven keys.
i smoothed before rendering these pics but after the fact i realized it pulled some of the uvs out of place. other than that... any comments?

very nice and detailed!
but the head just kills it for me...more detail on the ears, or just new ones...and some more detail in the mouth area. Love the body doh! But the tits look alitle flat, probably the suit? :thumbsup:

flow, slice, thanks for the feedback... in the pic below i added some more detail to the ears. before, i just threw simple ones on just for the sake of having ears... do these look better? also, i tried to round out the breasts a bit. here i thought they were looking a bit larger before... is this a bit better? oh, & the hairline keeps stretching because of smoothing but i'll keep working on it.

Yeah, looks ok now. Don't see too much change on the ear. But it's fine anyway! :thumbsup:
The animation was really cool too, what is she going to be used for?

so pull a bit more detail out of the ear, then? LoL the plan is to use her in a short for my final project class. the official title is recall, & enid is this character's name... which is an acronym... for something yet undetermined. LoL
i was originally hoping to have a finished product by christmas break, but now i'll just be happy if i can get it to a point where all i have to do is render when i come back! LoL
i'll be sure to keep you posted all the same!

Rad, I like the concept alot. She has a cartoon adverture thing going.
I think that it would help if you exaggerated her features a bit more. Rounder cheeks and eyes would soften her face up.

i'm using maya 4.0. the school i'm at recently got a hold of 4.5 & i may eventually convert it over, but not just yet.
the character shell is polys, while the mechanics are mostly nurbs. altogether, unsmoothed, the count's around 9616 triangles. it soared when i started extruding the edges of the compartments to give them more volume. i'm not too concerned about count though.
the actual short itself is not going to be all that active. animation is not one of my stronger points. the sdks & blend shapes for the face were going to be a majority of it.

really like the SDK compartments...... I think she could use a little more detail on her face though....other than that she is lookin good... Keep up the good work..:beer:

just a simple little update... i spent some time wrangling verts around to make the cheeks rounder. does the face look any better? i want to make it look good but i do have time constraints that i've set for myself.
in hopes of moving along, i tried rigging the body today & let's just say it was quite an adventure! LoL. more soon

Seems to me that the cheeks meet the nose to close to the flat of it. The middle part of the nose (the bridge?) either doesn't stick out far enough or the cheeks meet the nose too far up. Sorry about the nonsensical terms, been a while since anatomy class.
Other than that I love the whole thing, can you post some close-ups of the machine inner workings?

alright,
i was tweaking stuff & had something i liked. then the school server took a big steaming dump on everyone who had files on it lol. it's all good, i only lost data from two saves ago. today is our last day of class before break so i don't know how much i'm going to be able to get done before lab's end. wish i had some way to work on it during break! oh well
right now i'm working on a demo movie. if it finishes rendering & i'm able to condense it into something small, i'll post it up to show you. it's basically just a glorified animatic, but what the hey....

here's a brief little demo
a good portion of the demo is thru a mechanized camera that observes the inspection of the android. this is the glorified animatic of that; with the model & bed. when the camera stops on a specific spot, it opens up & mechanical factory arms (represented by the two cylinders on sides) inspect the machinery.
