View Full Version : Combustion and After Effects
MickyG 03-02-2006, 07:11 AM Without sparking a software war, could I get an idea of what software you prefer and why? I have the option to get on or the other, and have no preference at this stage. I use Max and a lot of Adobe products so I am not really leaning one way or the other, I just want the one that offers the most features, and would be interested in hearing your thoughts.
Thanks

I prefer Combustion on the PC because I like the ability to have a timeline and Node based view.
Other apps I use and integrate it with are:
1. Cinema4d 9.5 (exports comps to both AE and Combustion)
2. Lightwave 8.5 (doesn't matter either way, no direct integration)
3. Premiere Pro 7
You'll never know until you try working with both for any given amount of time. As the purchase of an app is very personal, I find that utilizing a demo for at least 2 hours, gives me the ability to determine the intuitiveness as well as look at the training available in classroom or video.
So, to answer your question, I like Combustion because of it's nodes and the interface in general.

There seem to be a lot more plugins for AE, but Combustion looks awesome. Seems to have better Keying and CC tools, too. Unfortunately, Combustion's node view does not exactly make it a node based compositor.
Also, Combustion crahes on me at least 5 times a day, if I have any sort of decent sized comp. Doesn't matter if you save often, though.
I use combustion more, but it wasn't really a conscious decision. I would prefer to use Fusion, Shake or something like that, if I had the chance. I don't know what the price diff for those is though.

There are many threads on this topic already. Please do a search and also try the demos of both.
