how can i control the viewports with the alt/ctrl/shift keys as with most 3d apps? i don't like hitting 'o' to merely look at a model from different perspectives then all the way over to 'z' to zoom in and pan.

or, more ideally, is there a lightwave->xsi key mapper file i can import? i remember reading something like that for max->maya and vice versa.

thanks-

What you are looking for is the "s" hot key.
Press S, then..
LMB: Pan
MMB: Dolly
RMB: Orbit.

Also under

transform ->tool options->camera

you can check "use alternate mouse mapping".

This will give you (when using the s key)

LMB orbit
MMB pan
LMB+MMB Dolly in and out

Just like other apps.

RMB in this mode will also Dolly.

thank you gentlemen. the workflow in XSI is just amazing. i LOVE the sticky keys feature!

one more noob (non-rtfm) question before i get into patch modeling: how do i lock viewports so that for example by zooming in viewport C also zooms in synch with viewport D? i already know how to lock rotoscope backgrounds but i lose the proportion cos the viewports are not in synch.

thanks again!

I think that the XSI's rotoscope is not the best solution for a rotoscope, couse if you use the supra keys (or hotkeys) "z" to zoom and pan in your viewport it work ok, but if you use "s" to zoom and pan, your rotoscope goes to whores (this 's an italian's "way to say"). I suggest you to create some grids and texture its with the rotoscope images and use its like your rotoscope.

But for your question "how to lock all viewport's zoom" (ala lightwave I think) I don't know, but in the time you will become accustomed yourself to XSI's zoom.

just use the memo cam buttons at top of each viewport to get rotoscope view back when lost
