"Sources close to the Walt Disney Company tell o-meon.com that the popular feature animation production team of John Musker and Ron Clements will be returning to Walt Disney Feature Animation (WDFA). Musker and Clements whose work as writers, director and producer includes The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Hercules and Treasure Planet, left WDFA last year after the studio refused to green light their latest feature animation project, Fraidy Cat."

Great news!!!

Let's hope that the new Disney management will greenlight their 'Fraidy Cat'. From what I heard and saw that was one really original concept with great design!!!

Awesome! I was so bumed when Fraidy Cat got canned. People told me it was because of "story problems" which just didn't make sense since these two are like story kings!

Check out the Animation Podcasts 3 part interview with Ron & John.

'Mermaid' men back in Disney

Quote:
The future of Walt Disney Feature Animation under Disney CEO Robert Iger, Walt Disney Studios chairman Dick Cook and Pixar Animation Studios' John Lasseter and Ed Catmull might lie in the future of CG, but the studio said Tuesday that as it moves forward, it also is returning to its past.

Disney has signed composer Alan Menken (http://awards.fennec.org/m/menken_alan.html), an eight-time Oscar winner and one of the driving forces behind "The Little Mermaid" -- which helped resuscitate Disney animation in the '80s -- to a nonexclusive, multipicture deal.

Exactly!! Jim Hill reported that it got canned by middle management because they felt the characters weren't strong enough to merchandise. Don't know if it's true, but Lasseter recently tomed middle management down, so I think the project has a good chance. I thought it was one of the most original animation ideas in the recent past years.

All the signs indicate that the new management is willing to revive a 2D department if they have a good enough project. Would be awesome!!

Wow, from that concept art, it looks great!
Hope this gets revived.

Looks like Disney is finally getting its animation act together.

If you believe that article, a source states that Fraidy Cat is not one of the films the two are currently working on.
