i like the way you've made the rat's/mouse's feet really big in the first sketch, really charming style :) is it a really small person or a big rat/mouse?

The idea is a big departure for holidays, like an expedition with little people and creatures.
In the foreground, the little girl observe the departure. That's just the basic idea.

very cute characters. i actually like the angle where we almost see her face. the idea of seeing a character and not yet knowing them is keeping nicely with the theme.
can't wait to see an environment.

tre bien!

nice cecile. Maybe the main branch should stop before the top of the picture or just go down more because as you made it, I find it really breaking the picture on 2 parts.

Great character sketches and really great composition. When you see the thumbnail of you image, it looks so realistic at that scale, which just shows how weel the lighting is working.

The only thing I would say, is that the foreground branch really helps to add depth, and this is lost slightly by placing a character on the branch nearly the same size as those on the road.

But hey great work..keep it up :)

wow, you really stepped up sinse i saw this last!

that's a graet compsistion you put her into. the one thing i'm not sure about is the scale. it seams like if she's on a squirrel sized thing and up on that branch and they were regular person size it would be right. but the wagon looks like it's pulled by one of those squirrel things. if they are supposed to be people, maybe they should have a pony.

also... maybe some little touches could be fun. the kids in the wagon fighting over a toy. the girl in the tree having a flower for a hat. anyway, there's a ton of room for those kind of touches.

really liking it so far,
*B

I agree with MrFreeman about the foreground character sabotaging the sense of depth by being the same size as the background characters. Give that a look and see if you agree. However, I love the composition of going down a trail. And how did you transfer from grayscale to color? Shape by shape? Layer by layer? Adjustment levels? What program are you using? Sorry for the rash of questions, I just like how you make it look easy.

That's beautiful work - I feel drawn into the picture - perhaps because I have real memories like that - like driving through woodland in Wales...

I'm doing something similar with my entry - though the composition is very different, when it's finished there should be a scenic view through the trees...

Keep it up - I'm sure the finished piece will be great!

hi Cecile... I really like this entry, the sense of depth in the background is lovely. Others have picked up on the size issue between the rider on the branch and thos in the background, so I'll leave that to your own judgement! I love your characters, they're really unique, and your sense of light and colour is enviable! Keep up the good work, looking forward to seeing more!

I really like the scenery- lovely forest/mountain scene and with great lighting. I think the perspective is rather off with the cart though- it looks like it's tilted downwards as it comes closer to us. Try using perspective lines to get it right. Make the path wider as it comes towards us and adjust the cart accordingly.

I really like your colors and I think once a few little niggles are worked out and details are put in it could be a great piece!

Which way are they going? Some look like they're going up the path, some look like they're going downhill. I think the main problem is that there's a lack of consistency regarding the concept. What's going on - where are they going, why are they going there...and so on...

nicely rendered beaver, but i think it might also have a scale issue?

these pics with 'little people' are always going to be hard to establish scale in, but i suspect you want these guys to be smaller than what the size of that beaver would imply. or else he's much farther away than he seams.

maybe if you placed another ridge between him and the characters and make the grass on the horizon much finer you could salvage him. be careful though. as nice as he looks, you don't want him to detract from the charm of your main characters.

cheers and good luck,
~B
