Let`s start on some simple idea, a group of heroes are starting they journey to the white city.
My scene will be in a fantasy world where physics and nature laws are different than on our earth. Stones without gravity, crystals growing from ground are common on this world.
Let`s see where this will guide us.

Hi,
looks like an interesting concept you planed to realize... nice idea and start off...

Just a refined sketch, I made the city closer and added more rocks. The path will go from island to island. Each bigger island should be a little different from another (made of crystal, lava, etc) to show that the heroes have to pass many dangers before arriving to the city.

The concept looks interesting. Floating rocks as a platform leading to the white city. Has a fun game look and feel to me.

Hey Nomad,
Really nice idea here. Maybe you could 'link' some of the islands in some way -Maybe have a waterfall running off one into a lake on another island below it, or maybe a distant rainbow can be seen crossing two islands.
Looking forward to seeing more!
Pete.

Great 3d concept. I got something a little similar in a more cartoon way.
AnywaY I already loke what you've done
Will it be the color scheme or just a natural color to see the volumes ??

Good luck ;)
Hi Maciej!

atra - thank you, I think I will have alot of fun to design this fantasy world :arteest:
Ludal - thx, glad to read that :)
authentic - yes? I will check your thread and sue you if you do the same concept :D
The color scheme will be different depending to the location on the road. But the start and end areas should stay like this ones, in green and warm tones.
Pete2003 - thats great ideas you wrote here, thank you. I`m thinking to link all the islands small and big with bridges... some small and rustic and some big in stone and decorated.
All the idea is to show unusual things like crystal plants, elements upside down etc. Difficult to explain... I will make some sketches of some of the areas and post them soon.
ecura - yes I`m refering to platform games and old illustrations from the `70s for the design. Especially from artists like Roger Dean or Rodney Matthews which I like alot.
Poonks - thank you :)

Very cool concept so far.. I know it's an early stage, but the road is a bit flat in the middle of your concept. Maybe make te raod more bumpy or with some more high-low variations..
Keep going! :)

I`m still looking for a mood and a composition format. Maybe the vertical is better...
One of the ideas is to make the middle of the path in dark with lanterns along the path, some metaphorics than the journey takes a long time and in the dark where it`s more dangerous.
Maybe some fog can be nice here.
I`m looking forward for your comments.

I`m continuing on the landscape version. This looks much better now.
As I always wanted to design a nice ship I resigned of placing a path all along the image. Also boats are a real icon of a journey, thats something which I think fits much better here.
C&C are welcome.

Well... not too much to say about rocks modeling... copy paste, move, copy paste, move, copy paste, move, ...
I adopted finally the version without the path but with a boat.
I will work on the boat design soon.

Hello Nomad its your fellow chess player here! I think that the cloads are a good move to add a feeling of distance:thumbsup: . I am sure that you thought of this already but adding some enviromental fog should really make it work.

More work on the mood here...
I have enhanced the detail of the rocks textures and still thinking about how to put 3d grass on them.
I have added few lamps.
I will certailny move the ramp to sow it better and move the boat more on left. At final it will be a little bigger so that will fit good in the left area.

The color palette looks a little closer to the final I wanted. I think the boat need just details and will keep this shape.
I corrected a little the lamps but I think they need to have a darker metal.
The heroes will stand on the front right big stone. I`m still looking at some ideas how they will look.

Two examples of grass. I think putting high grass everywhere will kill the effect of the flying rocks. As I made on the second example it`s much more interesting to have the grass in clumps. The other green could be more some kind of moss covering the rocks. It just needs some bump and specular effects.

Lemog - I`m not verry happy with them, I will work on some details, they look like "unfinished". And the tie isn`t right. But I have the time to improve that...
Poonks - merci :) glad you like the whole idea. I hope to build an entire background with many odd inhabitants. There will be certailny three heroes: a knight, a dwarf and a wizard-yogi master :D
This is the challenge where I`m learning character modeling so any comments will be welcome.

No unfinished for me... just need a bit more work on the textures... that must do some zones... and an aspect a little bit more... wet or velvet... but maybe more about the pose... to feel better the move, the action... the run...

Lemog - I really want to improve the "hands" (don`t know how to call this in english. Nageoires en francais non?) this will also give more apparence for different poses.

For the skin I`m thinking about funny patches and a different color under the seal

That will permit to give them their personality... they can make us a little "coucou" with their fins :scream:

Yup, this will give more life in the poses as far as I learn to rig correctly :argh:
Ten years in computer graphics and I newer rigged any character yet haha :scream:

Leaving a little the seals (I`m afraid about rigging and must learn a bit about that) I decided to build the big palace which we`ll see on the right top of the image. Going here in the Lemog steps (haha, be afraid) I will make some somptuous buildings for this first of many floating islands.

And here you have the whole island. I will add few elements like some smaller floating islands around with buildings and maybe a port. Some smaller and verry decorated buildings will come later.

This can be a nice building base for one of my smaller floating islands. I`ll see where I can put it.

Greatto - Yes it looks a little like Naboo now but I don`t want to copy too much the Amidala`s palace however thers be some similar elements like waterfalls and some architecture I want to incorporate some other elements which will be more "odd" :)

I love everything flying.
Interesting composition, i'm interesting how it will look in final step.
I think there might be a lot of atmospheric effect's and post production.
Hm, characters looks strange, i wander how it will look on a scene
Keep on working :)

As you can see I don`t need to overdetail all the palace elements, just those which will be seen here.
I think I will add more buildings behind the big dome and maybe make all bigger by adding few satelite islands above the big one. All joined with briges should look nice and higher than now. More in a pyramid shape like on my concept sketch.
I painted over to show where could be the waterfalls.

I will certainly add some vegetation around it (and everywhere else too). I`m thinking about tropical plants as palms and yucca like plants. This will look interesting.

Hello theuni, no the Palace will not be bigger, there will be another islands all around which will fill the scene. The Palace is not the destination of the heroes, it`s just a part of they journey in this world.

Here you have few steps for the modeling of a simple palm tree. I will trun it a little more in a fantasy style later so don`t seek any realworld related trees here.

In each port there is a tavern where heroes can talk and drink Zorg beer. (info about Zorg beer will come soon)
The tavern is builded in part inside of the mount, I`m still thinking about the walls... probably I`ll make them in stones.
