This was simply too fun to pass on.
Even though time is not on my side, I will give it a shot. Only entering 2D this time.

Idea:

The two siblings Sonia and Vincent finds themselves in a mysterious world after entering a cave through the bottom of a well, where everything seems odd and strange. They have in fact entered the world where dreams go after no one dreams them anymore. The rubbish heap of dreams.

They quickly meet a guardian of the strange world, a dragon-fox named Phantalux, who promises to guide them safetly through the dreamscape to the exit behind the Mountains of Reality.

I'm thinking this as a Dali kind of world. Flying, humming bird-looking, tigers, melting clocks, wierd landscapes, strange flowers, water running uphill, oddly shaped buildings, pyramids, stairs leading nowhere and so on.

Plan of attack:
Starting March 2.
10 days concept. Finished March 12. (Finished March 3. +9 days)
15 days line art. Finished March 27. (Finished March 22. +5 days)
40 days color wip. Finished May 6.
20 days final coloring. Finished May 26.

This is the first 10 min basic idea. I will fiddle with the size of characters and perspective later.
Nightmareville to the left. Bubbly dream town to the right. Forest of missing emotions to the far right. Night, day and dawn all at the same time. Shadowing will be hell.

Thanks for all happy replies!

Refining the first idea.

The rainbow, half turned into stone has got to go. Too much Carebear-my-little-pony-teletubbys feel over it. It's also to central and takes up far too much attention.

Looks like it's developing nicely! Keep working on perspective and scale if your goal is realism, especially towards the foreground of the painting.
Good luck! :)

Thanks Rachel!

Not going for "true" realism, more of a painting feel, I think. Not sure at this point. But I calculated that I have 10 more days of concept sketches, so still plenty of time to make up my mind.

10 days concept. Finished 12 March
15 days line art. Finished 27 March
40 days color wip. Finished 6 May
20 days final coloring. Finished 26 May

total: 85 days, finishing 1 day early...

Hey, I rather like this! It has a fun children's book look to it- it would make a good illustration. Keep going! However, I think the horizon line is a little too high to meld in with the characters, maybe you should think about dropping that or redoing the characters.

Where is the journey going to? Also, I think you should include stuff that makes it look more like they're going on a journey....

Thanks Theresa!

Yeah, I'm still working on the prespective. Thanks for the tip.

I'm having problems with that at the moment. Since the children found the entry to the dreamland by chance, they hadn't packed any supplies. They didn't start the day thinking they would enbark on a massive journey. I'm thinking of adding toys like a wooden sword, a ball or a picnic basket, since those are things that they might have carried with them on any given day.

Liking the idea a lot! I quite like it that the perspective is a bit off, has a sort of feel to it that way. And I like it that it's quite busy, and a lot to look at. Might be a tiny bit too confusing at first, would be nice with one focus point that sort of stands out before you look at the rest. (if that makes sense)

Looking forward to seeing more:)

I have taken your suggestions into concideration, and have come to the conclusion that...mjhaa, just look at the picture and tell me what you think.

Well, I have decided to go with the current concept, giving me 9 days extra for line art work. I think I have the right perspective and don't want to spend more time in concept mode. I will probably move the stairs to a more visable spot, or remove them completely, in the line art.

Hey!

Cool ideas,, especially the guy hugging his boat! :p Try not to give too many elements too much room or you will make the viewer lose focus on whats important, right now it seems too much is going on maybe..? Maybe bring the cam a little closer to the guy hugging his ship(i wanna see that up close damn it lol).. :p

Ill check back later..

Starting the lineart early as this will take me a lot of time to get right.

"Come on" Sonia urged, while pointing at nothing in particular with her sword, just a general pointing for pointing's sake. She was quite good at it. The pointing that is, and had already mastered the art of pointing at the young age of 6 (and a half).
Vincent paid no real attention, one of the traits he had mastered, being subjected to hours and hours of "look at this, look at that" by his sister over the years. He gave one big last hug to Barkmoir who had guided them safetly through the roughest parts of the river Remla. The journey was now truly about to begin...
