View Full Version : Lightwave Student Upgrades...

I've got a friend who want to get Lightwave. He's a student and will be getting the student version. Does anyone know if students still have to pay for upgrades, if so, how much are they typically? Thanks.

If I understand the license agreement correctly, the upgrade path is still the same but the license is still a student license and cannot be used for commercial purposes. So if you have the student version and want to upgrade you can like anyone else. The only thing is if you want to use it commercially you have to pay to upgrade your license. Just what I read in the legal print.
yeah, there's an upgrade price for student licenses (LW7 to LW8) and there's also a separate upgrade price to go from student to commercial license.

This is how it is.
If you purchase LW 7Ed.Version, and then LW 8 is released 5 months later and you want to upgrade to it, you simply pay for the upgrade to LW 8.....and that is it. You are the proud owner of a full COMMERCIAL copy of LW. No transfer fee from Ed. to commercial copy, nothing like that. Thats been Newteks policy for some time I believe.
I don't think Marquis is correct.
Here's the information from the horses mouth.
JourneyEd (http://www2.journeyed.com/cgi-bin/sgsh0101.exe?SKW=lightwave%20software&FNM=20&UID=2002121409002867&GEN0=&GEN4=&GEN5=&GEN6=&GEN7=&GEN8=NEWTEK&GEN9=routey20.pro) (Educational Licenses)
Full Product: $395 (US)
Upgrade (6 -> 7.5): $195 (US)
Safe Harbor (http://www.sharbor.com/scripts/search.cgi?ke=Lightwave) (Commercial Licenses)
Full Product: $1,250 (US)
Upgrade (6 -> 7.5): $395 (US)
And I believe the upgrade from Educational License to Commercial is the difference of full-product pricing.
About $800 (US).
But of course, I don't work for Newtek.
Nope I was wrong. Right on the Safe Harbor list it says upgrade from Educational to Commercial is $395(US), the cost of a standard commercial upgrade. :thumbsup:

If you own an educational version of LightWave and want to upgrade to the commercial version, you simply need to buy the next available commerical Upgrade.
We really try to make it easy for students to OWN our products.
